A Study of Beed District

MAVIM is a nodal agency to implement various women empowerment programs through Self Help Groups (SHGs) in every district of Maharashtra through its district offices. SHGs has proved to be a strategic tool for organizing rural women in groups and promoting savings and thrift habits to gain access to institutional credit for their socio-economic development and empowerment.

The present study implies the role of MAVIM in Beed district in empowering
women. It is try to take a review of various schemes and programs implemented by MAVIM for women empowerment and study that, whether social and economic development has been done in women through MAVIM in Beed District. It is found that MAVIM fulfilling the object of sustainable development of women in Beed district by successfully implementing central and state government sponsored schemes.

To study the role of MAVIM for empowering women.


To take a review of various schemes and programs

implemented by MAVIM for women empowerment. To study whether social and economic development has been done in women through MAVIM in Beed District.

Improvement in womens economical development is

possible through the MAVIM. MAVIM performed significant role in developing womens identity in society.

The study is based on secondary data, like Reports, Prospectus published by MAVIM, GoMs documents, Books, Journals, Magazines, Articles from news papers.
The internet sources also be used to collect data on the

subject.

The women in this process is said empowered only when she can able to plan for herself and her family and takes decisions, implement it and achieve expected goals.

Micro-credit through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) has proved to be a strategic tool for organizing rural women in groups and promoting savings and thrift habits to gain access to institutional credit for their socio-economic development and empowerment.

Social, economical and political justice for women though

for sustainable development MAVIM was established. It was established in February 1975 by State Government of Maharashtra under section 25 (C) of Company Act 1956 to celebrate International Womens year with an authorised share capital of Rs. 4.00 crores. Her Excellency Hon. Pratibhatai Patil president of India was the first chairperson of MAVIM. MAVIM has covered 13000 villages of Maharashtra, formed more than 53929 SHGs and more than seven lakhs women have been mobilized.

To make women organized. To broaden womens capacity. To develop self confidence. To develope entrepreneurship among women. To co-ordinate employment opportunities and market demands. To develop womens participation in education , politics and assets building. To empower SHGs by providing status of institute for sustainable development.

MAVIM implements various programs and schemes.


There are two types of schemes SHG Based Schemes These schemes are implemented through Self Help Groups ( SHGs). The details of these and performance is shown in Table No. 1.1 Non SHG Based Schemes MAVIM Mahila Prangan (MAVIM Ghar) : Mahila Swavalamban Nidhi (MSN):

Apart from these MAVIM organizes different need base training for the SHG members such as health training, etc.

MAVIM has purposefully created awareness about social and political issues and inspired for participation in such activities. As a result they has got an esteemed position in their own family and society as well. Now a days it is a common scenario that they are standing strongly against the social problems like alcoliolism, dovery etc. Their participation has also increased in various social activities like Gram Swachata, Planting Trees. Thus contributing in village development by their way.

MAVIM is implementing SHG related programs in rural Maharashtra from more than a decade. There is a definite socio economic development taking place in the lives of the SHG members. In Beed district MAVIM implements 5 schemes for fulfilling the object of sustainable development of women. We can see the visible findings such as tremendous increase in the confidence of women, enhanced leadership qualities, participation in decision making process, increased participation in LSG etc. Their vision towards self development and village development is broadening to a greater extent.

MAVIM has carried out research studies in the year 2007 with the help of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Nirmanla Niketan College of Social Work, SNDT, and IRFT to assess the changes in the socio economic status of the women after being the members SHGs. In addition to that MAVIM has also conducted Annual Outcome Survey during 08-09 and

09-10 (under process) which reveals these findings.
