Theory
Explanation

Definition
Using 10 pt. font, define the theory of collection of theories. Response should include information from the slides and/or the articles. Can include your opinion if backed up by evidence, but should not only be your opinion. Make sure to include the components of the theory if applicable. Do not provide examples here.

Scene
Describe the scene you will reference. Set up the situation to include where it occurs in the movie and the plot overall.

Character
Describe the character and/or characters in order to give us a reference related to the situation you will reference.

Example
Give a detailed example of the theory and tell us why this illustrates the theory. Refer to the definition and key components of the theory as much as possible. Be as specific as possible. It is okay to add your opinion if it is backed up by evidence you cite about the scene and character. Do not make the reader infer anything about the scene or character. For example, if you discuss intellectual stimulation as part of transformational leadership it should be defined.

Trait Based Theories

This theory describes an individual leader to be born with qualities and traits that make them the into a natural leader. Zaccaros article on Trait Based Perspectives, he mentions that the research is starting to shift from traits only being hereditary. Evidence is showing that experiences and situations can create leadership qualities. However, this theory strongly suggests that leaders are simply born not made.

The owner of a Convenient Store, Farhad, and his daughter, Dorri, argue with each other in front of a gun store owner as Farhad tries to buy a revolver. The shop keeper gets irritated and orders Farhad outside while making a racist comment. Dorri steps in to make the purchase. Daniel finds his youngest daughter, Lara, hiding under her bed after hearing a gunshot outside. To comfort her, Daniel gives her

Dorri is first revealed to us as a character that is strong willed and smart. She makes strategic decisions that will lead to safety of many lives. She acts as the peacekeeper to keep her family safe. Opposite of her father, she is able to stay calm and collective.

Dorri exemplifies Trait Based Leadership skills front her first contact with the store owner. As Dorri steps in to finish the gun purchase and says either give me the gun or give me my money back, and Im really hoping for the money. The gun store owner surprisingly gives her the gun and asks what type of bullets. His comment throws you off guard, but immediately shows her innate communication skills. She picks blank bullets so that her father has a sense of protection, but wont hurt anyone with his temper. According to Zacarro, she was able to be discrete and did not violate potentially harmful information by giving her father the gun but not telling him that the bullets were blanks. She has strong communication skills, cognitive ability with mediating conversations between her family and those who dont speak Persian. Above all, Daniel continues to display Self Savvy characteristics, with a high sense of spirit of optimism, as he is continuously stereotyped and criticized, because of his race. First, while Daniel is changing the locks of a white family, the Cabots, he overhears Jean freaking out about having a heavily tatted Hispanic with a shaved head changing their locks, because she is sure he is going to leave and give copies of the new keys to "his other gang members."

Skills and Competencies (Use HTM Model)

This Competency Model theory, as we have been taught in the HTM program, is a model of skills we possess and those we should improve upon individually. The competencies include Business Savvy, People Savvy, and Self Savvy and 12 competencies that fall into these categories. Some of which include spirit of optimism,

The Hispanic locksmith, Daniel Ruiz, is repeatedly scrutinized for his race, but continues to keep a positive attitude in his

Theory
Leader/Mem ber Exchange (LMX)

Definition
The Leader/Member Exchange theory states that leadership is formed off of one to one social exchanges between a leader and his or her follower. There are three phases involved: 1) You are in the stranger phase, where there is no trust, but the leader still follows; 2)You then become an acquaintance, and begin to test the relationship; and lastly, 3) You build a partnership in which the both the leader and the follower are motivated to look for what is best for the group.

Scene
Ryan and Christine meet in very different circumstances. The first meet when he pulls her husband over and gropes her. The scenes end when Officer Ryan arrives to the scene where Christine car is about to explode into flames.

Character
Officer Ryan (leaders) is a Los Angeles Police officer who comes across as a disgraceful racist. Christine (follower) is the wife of TV director who runs into trouble throughout the movie.

Example
Although the steps to this relationship happen very quickly, it is obvious they must go through these stages in order to save Christines life. In the first encounter, the stranger phase, Officer Ryan inappropriately pats Christine down and humiliates her in front of the other cop and husband. Because of his authority, Christine is forced to trust Ryan but clearly he abuses their relationship from the start. There acquaintance phase has a strange twist because Christine gets into an accident and Ryan is the first to the scene. Although not willingly, Christine is forced to begin trust if he is going to be the one to save her. In the last moments, they begin to build a partnership.. They work together and she begins to trust him so they can both get out safely. Even after he is pulled out by another cop as the car catches on fire, he goes back in to get her. In an very extreme version, they were both looking for the good of the group.

Path/Goal Theory

The Path/Goal Theory recognizes the different approaches that a leader may take to accomplish a goal. It deals with how a leader motivates a follower in order to accomplish a goal. The 4 behaviors that a leader may use are: directive, goalclarifying, supportive, or participative. This is a trait based theory that examines how a leader and a follow are able to a accomplish a task.

In the studio where Cameron works, a white producer, Fred suggests that a black actor isn't acting "black" enough and suggests to redo the scene.

Cameron, is a black TV producer who constantly has to deal with racial stereotypes throughout the film.

For the second time in the film, Cameron is left to make a decision of what to do in a unjust racial scenario. Cameron displays a supportive leader behavior throughout the film, revealing his need to gain the satisfaction of his white coworkers needs. Even though he seemed very please with the scene, he asks the black character to do the scene again to make his peer happy. It is obvious that establishing himself in his role and making relationships in his work environment are troublesome, which is why he goes against his initial reactions.
