Martial law

is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis when the civilian government fail to function effectively, when there are extensive riots and protests, or when the disobedience of the law becomes widespread. In most cases, military forces are deployed to quiet the crowds, to secure government buildings and key or sensitive locations, and to maintain order.

the need for extra powers to quell the rising wave of violence allegedly caused by communists to eradicate the roots of rebellion and promote a rapid trend for national development a strategic approach to legally defend the Constitution and protect the welfare of the Filipino people from the dangerous threats posed by Muslim rebel groups and Christian vigilantes that places national security at risk during the time.

KISLAP and LIWAYWAY are the magazines that has been released to publish writings. Writings are written in a symbolic way because of the strict governance by that time. Because of the sensitivity of the censorship by those times, the safest themes used by the writers are LOVE, LIFE and NATURE. The novels are commercialized and its common themes are romanticism and love.

CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES, FOLK ARTS THEATER and METROPOLITAN THEATER has been built during this time. Translation of classic operas began. Nicanor Tiongson classified theatrical plays into two: indoor and outdoor theatrical plays. OUTDOOR THEATRICAL PLAYS are COMEDY, SARZUELA, VOUDAVILLE and STAGE SHOWS influenced by the colonists. INDOOR THEATRICAL PLAYS shows what society is.

AUG. 21, 1983 Ninoy Aquino died FEB. 12, 1986 an illegal election happened JUAN PONCE ENRILE and FIDEL V. RAMOS resigned due to injustice. EDSA REVOLUTION happened. PRES. CORAZON AQUINO was the first woman who has been a president.

NOVELS
During this period, novels become more realistic because novelists used the characters of individuals who the people regularly can interact with. Each novels contains the common trait of having society awareness.

SHORT STORIES
Main topic used during this period is the EVENTS HAPPENING IN THE SOCIETY. Common themes used are CULTURE, EDUCATION, ECONOMICS, POLITICS, DEPTHS OF LIFE, GOOD and BAD EVENTS AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE SOCIETY.
