Industrial Water Biocide

Justeq07

Justeq LLC

Justeq07
Patented in most of the strategic countries The most economical among all the available water treatment biocides Bromine releasing biocide The most stable liquid among the liquid halogen biocides in the market Mostly used for cooling water and white water for paper machines Started to market in the US from March, 2008. Over 70 water treatment companies are using this product in the US already. Paper machine application started in 2010 The only effective and economical oxidizing biocide for the systems with high halogen demand.

Bio-control Industrial Water Systems

Prevents: - Microbial deposit on water systems - Bio-corrosion (SRB) under slime deposits - Energy loss due to excessive operation of cooling fans, circulation pumps and poor heat exchanger

efficiency
- Frequent boil out of paper machine - Mud and slime build-up by bio-flocculation

The target of bio-control for industrial water is

to remove bio-film, slime and algae

Halogen Biocides
- Chlorine (Cl2, NaOCl, Ca(OCl)2)

- Chlorine + NaBr
Effective in C/W above pH8 Effective in C/W contaminated with ammonia

- Stabilized bromine
- Justeq07 In-situ generation of bromine in slime

Stabilized Bromine
- Strength Stable and easy to use Effective above pH8 - Weakness Cost (high consumption) Less effective in high COC, long HTI systems (Over stabilization)

What improvements do we need from Stabilized Bromine?

50% of total halogen concentration is free

-50% as reactive as unstabilized halogens -Still wasted by reacting with organics in cooling water -Still wasted by mechanical stripping -Loss of efficiency by over-stabilization -Still difficult to make deep penetration into slime mass -Still corrosive to metals Target for Improvement Lower waste for cost saving No over-stabilization problem Improve slime/algae penetration for cleaning Less corrosive

Justeq07

** Shows properties of oxidizing and nonoxidizing biocides (Non-selective, slime removal)

-Stabilized Chlorine + Br- HOBr (pH, Temp. dependent) equilibrium amount of HOBr is generated

Continuous generation of bromine in C/W Bromine is mainly generated within bio-film, slime mass and algae Requires less than half the amount of stabilized bromine products Non-oxidizer may not be needed Effective in C/W of high pH

**Stabilized chlorine (chlorosulfamate) penetrates into slime mass very easily

Slime removal mechanism by Justeq07

-Chlorosulfamate penetrates into slime because of low oxidizing power -Br- penetrates into slime -Bromine is produced within slime as it is produced in C/W -Consumption of bromine within slime is much faster than in bulk cooling water (chemical is consumed mainly for cleaning)

Steady conversion of Stabilized Chlorine and Bromide to free HOBr in process waters Oxidation of bromide only occurs in situ (pH 5-10) Rate increases with temperature Enhanced biofilm penetration

Bromine is generated in the system not in the container (pH dependant)

Better Stability than Stabilized Bromine

Under Direct Sun Light -Stabilized Bromine generates much more bubbles than Justeq07

Stabilized Bromine

Easier to pump Better to store

Justeq07

Justeq07 lasts more than twice as long as stabilized bromine products in uncontaminated cooling water

Recommended Dosage
Slug dosing:
-25ppm, once/day in holding volume

**Dosage for 1-2ppm total chlorine in C/W is higher during clean-up period

Compatible with Water Treatment Chemicals Azole Copper Corrosion Inhibitors are Decomposed much less by Justeq07 than by Chlorine or Bromine

COOLING WATER APPLICATION

SLIME FREE COOLING WATER SYSTEMS MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE THAN CHLORINE EXCELLENT RESULTS FOR PROCESS CONTAMINATED WATER VERY STABLE LIQUID MUCH LESS CORROSIVE THAN CHLORINE COMPATABLE WITH WATER TREATMENT CHEMICALS

PAPER MACHINE WHITE WATER SLIME CONTROL

Effect of various oxidants on vapor phase corrosion of mild steel. (Solutions, March 2003, COMBINED HALOGENS:
NEW PRODUCTS TO COMBAT AN OLD PROBLEM, By Bruce Urtz, Ondeo Nalco Company)

**Justeq07 should be even less corrosive than bromosulfamate because chlorosulfamate is much less reactive

WHITE WATER APPLICATION

Excellent microbiological control for ultimately clean machine Stable one drum liquid for easy pumping (No separate bleach or mixing device needed) Does not consume paper making additives (dye, brightener, etc.) Does not damage felts Does not cause vapor phase corrosion unlike chloramine based products Does not form halogenated organic compounds
