PATHOPHYSIOLOGYOste
oporosis is distinctly multi-factorial. Osteoporotic fractures occur because of a combination of injury and intrinsic bony fragility. Aside from that, there is so called resorption and deposition:The optimal point or the balance point of the two processes are determined by the activities of two principle cell namely the osteoclasts and osteoblasts, which are derived from the blood cell lineage.

64-year old woman have tripped in her garden and have fallen rather gently onto her right arm that resulted to swelling and pain just above her right wrist joint. X-ray showed a fracture of the distal end of the radius with the displacement and showed decrease or radiodensity suggestive of osteoporosis.

Appropriate cast was applied and she was ask to visit her family doctor two weeks from the incident. In view of the fracture, her family doctor ordered her to undergo the ff: DEXA-dualenergy-x-ray absorptiometry to assess BONE DENSITY, X-rays of lower back (spine), Serum Ca, P, & alkaline phophatase, 25hydroxyvitamin D, Parathyroid hormone, and Complete urinalysis.
