Business Warehouse Overview

The primary reporting tool for BSM that retrieves and integrates data to aid in tactical and strategic decisions Reports include large amounts of summary or detail data over periods of time (daily, weekly, monthly, annually) A data warehouse or data repository that stores data Extract of transactional and master data from SAP R/3 as well as data from DPACS, and Manugistics for such decision-support tools as query and analysis

12

BW Overview and Navigation Module 1 BW Overview

Business Warehouse Benefits

Stores data in one place to allow efficient retrieval reducing time spent gathering data Due to the flexibility of BW, a single query can contain what traditionally would be found in multiple reports reducing the number of hits on the system Ability to analyze data in a timely manner and when needed rather than waiting for month end or scheduled reports to be generated Ability to manipulate data and customize the look and feel of a report for individual purposes Optimized for quick response resulting in less stress on the DLA network

such as Order Quantity and Selling Price
Example: NIIN 000044487 is an insulator with a unit cost of $1.91. The NIIN 000044487 is a Characteristic and the unit cost of $1.91 is a Key Figure.

NIIN, document type, fiscal year, used to define a report displayed in the results area of the report but are available (free) to be added to the report results area

BSM Portal
The BSM Portal will provide single sign-on capabilities for easy access to BEx Client via BW tab, BEx Web via Navigation Panel and Crystal Enterprise via CE tab

BEx and Crystal Enterprise

BW reports can be modified and executed by BW Support Users through BEx Client. BW reports can be executed by BW Supervisory Users through BEx Web. BW reports can be executed and viewed by BW End Users through Crystal Enterprise. System access is granted by job/profile

MultiProvider and InfoSet

MultiProvider InfoCubes ODS

InfoSet

MultiProviders allow for reporting across multiple InfoProviders InfoSets join like data originating from one table or multiple joined tables

InfoCube
InfoCubes are groupings of summarized data from the ODS and specific to a single subject area, i.e., Planning

Operational Data Store (ODS)

Operational Data Store (ODS)

The ODS is a centralized data store which consists of detailed enterprise-wide information from multiple subject areas. This data is kept over long periods of time for historical reporting. This is the first layer where data from multiple source systems is integrated

Interface BW Extract Data Sources

Flat File Transfers

Data Source
Data is extracted and loaded from SAP R/3 to BW via standard extracts. Data from other source systems (DPACS, Manugistics and LMARS) is loaded into BW via flat files
