PRESENTATION ON

GENERATOR ERECTION MAJOR ACTIVITIES

1. CHECKING OF FOUNDATION

CHECK FOUNDATION wrt. LONGITUDINAL AXIS, TRANSVERSE AXIS AND ELEVATION. CHECK VERTICILITY & LOCATION OF SLEEVES AS PER DRAWING.

2. PREPARATION OF MACHINERY PART

REMOVAL OF PROTECTIVE COATING. ATTENDING MINER DAMAGES.

3. SETTING & ALIGNMENT OF MACHINE SOLE PLATES

POSITIONING / LEVELING / ALIGNMENT OF SOLE PLATE AS PER DRAWING. GROUTING OF SOLE PLATE WITH NON SHRINKABLE GROUT CEMENT CURING OF GROUT CEMENT FOR ATLEAST 14 DAYS.

4. VISUAL INSPECTION OF STATOR

Check presence of any foreign materials in stator bore, space between stator core and casing. Check for any visual damage to stator core. Check that all fasteners are tight. Ensure DC resistance test and IR / PI test of winding completed.

5. VISUAL INSPECTION OF ROTOR (Contd.)

Inspect compressor blades and retaining rings for any chipping of metal, dents marks, cracks etc. Inspect journal for pitting and scratches. Check for positioning of all balancing weights as per its proper looking. Check locking of all screws in centering ring.

5. VISUAL INSPECTION OF ROTOR (Contd.)

Check freeness of all ventilating holes. Ensure that physical dimension of rotor have been recorded and checked. Ensure that DC resistance test, impedance test and IR of rotor winding have been completed and values are within limit.

6. MOUNTING OF BUSHING COMPARTMENT

It is flanged to the stator frame at exciter end below the stator frame. Inserting the bushing compartment into the foundation. Mounting the bushing compartment.

7. INSERTION & REMOVAL OF HYDROGEN COOLERS

TE stator end shield houses 4 numbers hydrogen coolers. Inspection of generator before placement of H2 cooler. Hydraulic test of coolers at rated pressure. Identification & insertion of cooler.

8. GENERATOR ROTOR INSERTION

Generator rotor supported on end shield mounted bearing at each end of the stator. Rotor insertion inside the stator casing is carried out after stator has been placed on foundation & its alignment wrt turbine centre line has been done. NOTE - Ensure that rotor does not touch any part of stator during threading in.

9. ALIGNMENT OF GENERATOR

Alignment of generator rotor wrt turbine rotor. The two shaft must be aligned along the line of their natural deflection (catenary) Alignment of generator rotor relative to an already aligned turbine shaft perform by a corresponding shifting of generator housing in axial & radial direction.

9. ALIGNMENT OF GENERATOR (Contd.)

Aligning the generator rotor relative to the stator core. Positioning the generator rotor in axial direction. Aligning the complete shaft line. Run out check at the coupling. Final tightening of coupling bolts.

10. MOUNTING AND ALIGNMENT OF FANS

Circulation of cooling air is obtained by a multistage fan at the turbine in of the generator. Axial & radial clearances is to be checked between fan blades.

12. MOUNTING OF SHAFT SEAL

Shaft seal is mounted after the generator rotor has been inserted and after installation of generator upper half end shield. Checking the END shield flange face to the SEAL RING CARRIER.

11. ALIGNING & COUPLING THE EXCITER ROTOR

Aligning the exciter rotor to an already aligned generator rotor should be done by shifting the base frame of exciter to the required position. Alignment of coupling.
