Ikatan yang terjadi bila terdapat transfer satu atau lebih electron dari satu atom ke atom
Sifat :
- Keras dan stabil
- Konduktor yang buruk (jika berwujud padatan)
- Suhu penguapan tinggi (1000 - 2000 K)
- Tidak tembus cahaya
Sifat:
- Tidak larut dalam zat cair biasa
- Penghantar yang buruk
- Tembus cahaya (intan)
- Energi kohesif kristal ini besar keras (intan, Si)
- Titik lelehnya sangat tinggi (intan : 4000 K)
3. Ikatan logam
Ikatan yang terjadi pada atom atom unsur logam.
Terjadi ikatan logam karena tiap atom logam memiliki electron valensi (satu electron
untuk Na), saat sebuah kristal terbentuk electron valensi pada atom ini terlepas dan
menjadi electron bebas, yang mampu bergerak melalui kristal yang terbentuk[3], sehingga
menjadi penghantar listrik dan kalor yang baik. Contoh material Na, Fe, Al, Au, dan Co
