D. Materi Pembalajaran
INFORMATION/FACTUAL REPORT
Definition: An information report is a factual text that provides information about different
phenomena in our life. It is used as a way to gain better understanding of different
phenomena.
Structure of an Information report:
Formal written reports usually follow a specific structure.
Introductory paragraph also known as general classificationit introduces
the topic/subject.

Body Paragraphs----- A series of paragraphs that provide detailed information


on the topic.
- Paragraph 1 (description).
- Paragraph 2 (description).
- Paragraph 3 (description).
Information reports do not have an ending or a conclusion but rounds off with a
statement that summarizes the contents of the report.
Glossary: it is placed at the end of the information report. It defines all the
technical terms or words used in the report. It is optional.
Bibliography: It is a list of books, journals, magazines or websites used in the
report. It is optional.

Features of an information report:
Text structure:
- General classification
- Technical classification
- Qualities/description of phenomenon
- Closing statement
- Glossary (optional)
- Bibliography (optional)
Sentence Structure:
- Use of present tense such as live, is, are, etc.
- Use of words which generalizeall, many, none, most, etc.
- Use of relational verbs such as have, consists of, is made up of, creates,
indicates etc.
- Use of technical vocabulary relevant to the subject
- Use of descriptive but factual language such as color, shape, size, habits,
behaviors etc.

EXAMPLE:
The Most Deadly Natural Hazards
Earthquakes being among the most deadly natural hazards - strike without any prior warning, leaving
catastrophe in their wake with terrible loss of human lives as well as economic loss.
Technically, an earthquake (also known as tremor, quake or temblor) is a kind of vibration through
earth's crust. This vibration occurs as a result of powerful movement of rocks in the earth's crust. These
powerful movements trigger a rapid release of energy that creates seismic waves that travel through the earth.
Earthquakes are usually brief, but may repeat over a long period of time. (Earth Science. 2001)
Earthquakes are classified as large and small. Large earthquakes usually begin with slight tremors but
rapidly take form of violent shocks. The vibrations from a large earthquake last for few days known as
aftershocks. Small earthquakes are usually slight tremors and do not cause much damage. Large earthquakes
are known to take down buildings and cause death and injury (Richter, 1935).
According to some statistics, there may be an average of 500,000 earthquakes every year but only about
100,000 can be felt and about 100 or so can cause damage each year.
The study of earthquakes is called seismology. Seismology studies the frequency, type and size of
earthquakes. Earthquakes are measured using observations by seismometers. The magnitude of an earthquake
and its intensity is recorded on a numerical scale known as Richter scale. On this scale, 3 or less is hardly
noticeable. Earthquakes with magnitude of more than 6.5 can cause heavy damage (Earth Science. 2001).

a. Kegiatan Pendahuluan (10):


- Guru emberikan apersepsi dan motivasi agar siswa siap mengikuti pelajaran.
- Guru menyampaikan garis besar materi dan indikator pembelajaran yang akan
dicapai.
- Guru menyampaikan langkah-langkah pembelajaran untuk pertemuan kali ini.
b. Kegiatan Inti (70):
Mengamati (30)
- Siswa secara berkelompok membaca teks tulis tentang gempa bumi.
- Siswa secara berkelompok mendiskusikan pertanyaan tentang teks tersebut.
Menanya (10)
- Siswa mengajukan pertanyaan berkaitan dengan isi teks tulis.
- Siswa menjawab pertanyaan teman dari kelompok yang berbeda.
- Apablila mendapat kesulitan, guru memberikan bantuan.
Mengeksplorasi (30)
- Siswa mengerjakan latihan kosa-kata yang berkaitan dengan teks tulis yang baru
dipelajari.
- Siswa mencari dan mempelajari teks tulis factual report dari berbagai sumber
yang lain. (Apabila waktu tidak mencukupi, pekerjaan bisa diselesaikan di kuar
kelas)
c. Kegiatan Penutup (10):
- Siswa secara acak menyampaikan pokok dari hal yang baru mereka pelajari.
- Guru menyampaikan kegiatan pada pertemnuan selanjutnya.
2. Pertemuan kedua (2 x 45)
a. Kegiatan Pendahuluan (10):
- Guru menyiapkan siswa untuk mengikuti pelajaran.
- Guru menyampaikan kegiatan dan indikator yang akan dicapai pada pertemuan
ini.
- Guru memberikan apersepsi dengan menanyakan secara singkat materi pada
pertemuan sebelumnya.
b. Kegiatan Inti (70):
Mengeksplorasi (lanjutan pertemuan sebelumnya) (25)
- Siswa menyaksikan video teks factual report lisan tentang binatang.
- Siswa menjawab pertanyaan tentang tayangan video tersebut.
- Siswa mempalajari teks-teks factual report yang mereka peroleh dari berbagai
sumber.
Mengasosiasi (25)
- Siswa secara berkelompok mengelompokkan teks-teks factual report yang mereka
peroleh berdasarkan obyeknya.
- Siswa secara berkelompok melakukan analisis tentang struktur teks dan unsur
bahasa teks factual report.
Mengkomunikasi (bagian 1) (20)
- Satu kelompok siswa menyampaikan hasil diskusi di depan kelas.

Siswa dari kelompok lain memberikan pertanyaan dan masukan.

c. Kegiatan Penutup (10):


- Guru memberikan komentar singkat tentang penyajian siswa.
- Guru menyampaikan kegiatan pada pertemuan berikutnya, yaitu melanjutkan
kegiatan mengkomunikasi dan ulangan harian.
3. Pertemuan ketiga (1 x 45)
a. Kegiatan Pendahuluan:
- Guru memberikan sedikit ulasan tentang kegiatan siswa pada pertemuan
sebelumnya.
- Guru menyampaikan kegiatan dan indikator pertemuan hari ini.
b. Kegiatan Inti:
Mengkomunikasi
- Kelompok siswa secara bergantian menyajikan hasil diskusi di depan kelas.
- Kelompok siswa yang lain memberikan pertanyaan dan masukan.
c. Kegiatan Penutup:
- Siswa menyampaikan kesimpulan tentang materi yang baru dipelajari.
- Guru menyampaikan project yang harus diselesaikan siswa di luar kelas, yaitu
membuat sebuah factual report berkaitan dengan pelajaran-pelajaran yang lain.
- Guru menyampaikan rencana pertemuan selanjutnya.
4. Pertemuan keempat (1 x 45):
Ulangan harian:
- Siswa mengerjakan format penilaian diri dan teman sejawat.
- Siswa mengerjakan test tulis pengetahuan.

GORILLA
Gorilla is very much like human being and it is walking on all
fours. It belongs to the apes, very large species of monkeys. It is
rather different from chimpanzee in that it is much bigger, has

can crush you to pieces.
Man has never been able to tame a gorilla and you will never
see a fully adult a gorilla in captivity.
