Betel leaf has many benefits one of them as an antiseptic. For simplicity
and to be practical in its use of betel leaf extract is made in the preparation of gel
in the basis of this study using a combination of HPMC and karbopol 940 gelling
agent. Both of these basis when compared with other basis has its own advantages
which result in a clear gel and easily soluble in water, with a combined 2 HPMC
and carbopol will further increase the viscosity and difussion of good medicine.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the addition of a
combination of HPMC and Karbopol 940 as a gelling agent on the physical
properties of betel leaf gel extract. Preparation of betel leaf extract gel begins by
extracting the fresh betel leaf. Extracts of betel leaf extraction infundasi method.
In the first formulation uses only 1.5% HPMC with TEA, the second formulation
uses a ratio 1: 2 combination of HPMC and karbopol 940 which is 0.5% HPMC
and 1 % of karbopol 940 with TEA, the third formulation uses only 0.5% of
karbopol 940 with TEA, and the fourth formulation uses HPMC without TEA.
That each formula tested homogeneity, viscosity, pH, dispersive power, and
adhesion within 6 weeks of storage. And followed by statistical analysis influence
of temperature with the formula using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and then
using two way ANOVA analysis, the results show that the formula of Karbopol
940 and HPMC 2 : 1 led to increased values of viscosity, and adhesion, as well as
the declining value of the spread. And no influence of temperature with the
formula on the physical properties of betel leaf gel extract.
