The Relationship Between Coffee Consumption with Body Mass Index among
Students of Faculty of Medicine, Lambung Mangkurat University
Medical student is one of the coffee consumers. Medical students have a diverse body mass
index that is thought to affect the level of coffee consumption. This study aimed to determine the
relationship between body mass index (BMI) and coffee consumption in the students of Faculty
of Medicine, Lambung Mangkurat University (FK UNLAM). This study was an observational
analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Pearson Chi-Square test from SPSS 24.0 was used
for data analysis with if requirement fulfilled or Fisher's Exact Test as an alternative test with
95% confidence interval. There were 300 respondents for this study, with 219 respondents had
low BMI and 81 respondents had high BMI. The analysis with Fisher's Exact Test showed a
significance value of 0.612 (p> 0.05) which meant there was no significant relationship between
body mass index and coffee consumption level in FK UNLAM students. Students with low BMI
had a higher coffee consumption risk than high BMI with an odds ratio of 1.498 with 95%
confidence interval but not statistically significant.
