THE EFFECT OF STACKS NUMBER OF FIBER AND MATERIAL OF
RESIN TO FLEXURAL STRENGTH OF JUTE FIBER REINFORCED
COMPOSITE
Abstract
The use of plastic has increased in the last few decades. Strong, lightweight,
flexible, rust resistant, not easily broken, and a good heat insulator are some of the
advantages of plastic that causes this material is widely used. Reducing the use of
plastic can be done by using natural fiber reinforced composites. Some of the
advantages of natural fibers are biodegradable, environmentally friendly,
renewable, and can improve its matrix properties.
The independent variables used in this study were variations in the stacks
number of fibers, that was 1, 2, 3 and 4 sheets and the types of resins, that was
polyester and epoxy. The control variable is making specimens using vacuum resin
infusion, mould volume, negative moulding pressure, room temperature, and
bending test standards for composites, namely ASTM D7264. While the dependent
variable of this research is bending strength. The analytical method used is Design
of Experiment Factorial.
The results of this study was that the highest average of bending strength was
found in jute fiber-polyester composites with a number of fiber stacks was 3 sheets,
that was 45.63 N/mm2 while the lowest average of bending strength was found in
jute fiber-epoxy composites with total 1 stack of fibers was 32,16 N/mm2.
