Phrase: Noun Phrase, Verb Phrase, Prepositional Phrase, Adjective Phrase, dan Adverbial Phrase

Coba Anda jelaskan pengertian phrase dan kemudian berikan contoh untuk masing-masing jenis phrase
seperti yang disebutkan di atas.

Phrase adalah kelompok kata yang saling berkaitan namun tidak mengandung unsur subject dan verb
(kata kerja).

1. Noun Phrase (frasa kata benda)

Frasa yang merupakan hasil penggabungan noun (kata benda) atau pronoun (kata ganti benda),
dengan satu atau lebih modifier (penjelas).
Contoh: - The boy in front of me : The boy in front of me looked at me without smile.
- The lazy student : The lazy student never do homework.
- A Handsome boy : A handsome boy wearing a black hat.

2. Verb Phrase (frasa kata kerja)

Frasa yang merupakan kelompok kata kerja utama (main verb) serta kata kerja bantu (auxiliary
verb), atau berupa linking verb.
Contoh : - Looking for : A beautiful girl looking for the book in the library.
- Is playing : The childrens is playing football
- Was reading : The boy was reading a new novel by Dee Lestari

3. Prepositional Phrase (frasa kata depan)

Kelompok kata yang diawali oleh preposition lalu diikuti oleh object of preposition. Object of
preposition bisa berbentuk noun (kata benda), pronoun (kata ganti), atau noun phrase (frasa
kata benda).
Contoh : - In the garden : Rina relax in the garden behind her house
- From Bobby : I got a doll from Bobby
- Between the Mall and the pos office : My home is between the Mall and the pos
office.

4. Adjective Phrase
Kelompok kata yang menjelaskan sifat dari noun (kata benda) atau pronoun (kata ganti)
disebuah kalimat.
Contoh : - Difficult : The math final examination yesterday is very difficult
- Famous : Fiersa besari is a famous writer from Indonesia
- Happy : I am happy to see you again.

5. Adverbial Phrase
Kelompok kata yang terdiri dari adverb dengan qualifier (too, very, so, enough, etc) atau
kelompok kata seperti: prepositional phrase atau infinitive phrase yang berfungsi seperti adverb.
Singkatnya Adverbial phrase digunakan untuk memberikan penjelasan yang “lebih” terhadap
suatu kata keterangan.
Contoh: - slowly : my father rides motorcycle very slowly
- Very well : He does his job very well
- Too much : My younger sister eats too much
