 Relasi
Pak Budi mempunyai lima orang anak, yaitu Riska,
Dimas, Candra, Dira, dan Reni. Masing-masing
anak mempunyai kegemaran berolah raga yang
berbeda-beda. Riska gemar berolah raga
bulutangkis dan renang. Dimas gemar berolah raga
sepak bola. Candra gemar berolah raga sepak bola.
Sedangkan Dira dan Reni mempunyai kegemaran
berolah raga yang sama yaitu basket dan
bulutangkis.

Pembahasan:
Karena fungsi f(x) adalah fungsi yang memuat bentuk akar, maka
untuk menentukan daerah asal (domain) dari fungsi tersebut
digunakan konsep bentuk akar yaitu setiap bilangan yang ada di
dalam akar harus lebih dari atau sama dengan nol. Dengan
demikian perhitungannya dapat dituliskan sebagai berikut.
2x - 4 ≥ 0  ⇔   2x  ≥  0 + 4
                  ⇔   2x ≥ 4
                  ⇔  x ≥ 2
Jadi, daerah asal dari fungsi f adalah Df = { x | x ≥ 2 }.

Diketahui fungsi f(x) = - x² + 3x - 7. Tentukan nilai f(x)
jika diketahui x = 2 !

Pembahasan:
f(x) = - x² + 3x - 7
x = 2  ⇒  f(2) = - (2)² + 3(2) - 7
            ⇔  f(2) = - 4 + 6 - 7
            ⇔  f(2) = - 5
Jadi, nilai f(x) untuk x = 2 adalah - 5.

Pembahasan:
f(x) = 2x + 5
f(p) = 2p + 5 = 21  ⇔  2p = 21 - 5

Operasi aljabar ini mendefenisikan suatu fungsi baru
yang disebut jumlah dari f dan g, dilambangkan
dengan f + g.
Nilai fungsi baru yang diperoleh adalah f(x) + g(x).
Oleh karena itu,
(f + g)(x) = f(x) + g(x) = x + 2x = 3x
