'And once we have given our community a good start,' I pointed out, ' the
process will be cumulative. By maintaining a sound system of education you
produce citizens of good character, and citizens of sound character, with the
advantage of a good education, produce in turn children better than themselves
and better able to produce still better children in their turn, as can be seen with
animals.'(Plato)
Plants are shaped by cultivation and men by education. .. We are born weak, we
need strength; we are born totally unprovided, we need aid; we are born stupid,
we need judgement. Everything we do not have at our birth and which we need
when we are grown is given us by education. (Jean Jacques Rousseau, Emile)
The educated differ from the uneducated as much as the living from the dead.
(Aristotle, In Education)
All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced
that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth. (Aristotle)

Prinsip KSSR
Al Ghazali gives a great attention to place Islamic thought in education. According to him, the
whole method of education must hold fast to the Islamic Shari'a.
According to him, the goal is to achieve happiness with a man closer to God. In other words,
various kinds of human beings to gain wealth, social power, science, merely an illusion if it
only related and aimed at the achievement of the mortal world.
According to him, the baby was born in a state of clear, then grow into children who need a
personality, character, and behavior while living and interacting with the environment.
Families teach children about language, customs, religious traditions, and all the influence of
these teachings may not disappear until they mature.
Therefore, the most responsible for bad or good education a child is their parents. Parents
are partners in educating their children and the teachers have to share them with such
children.
Al-Ghazali stresses the importance of character formation. By giving the characters a good
education so parents have helped her children to live according to the straight path.
However, poor education will make children's character to be not good and narrow-minded
so it is difficult to bring them towards the right path again.
Therefore, children should learn in elementary school so that knowledge gained from a
young age will be attached to strong like carving in stone. In addition, children also must be
convinced that they must always develop knowledge gained.
The children continue to grow, in their teens they will feel attracted to the opposite sex, then
at the age of 20 years, they yearn to be a leader, and at the age of 40 years people need
closeness and pleasure to the knowledge of his Lord.
In childhood, parents must teach them the Koran and Hadith sciences. In addition, they must
be kept from the love poems. For these things, he said, could be a bad seed for the soul of a
boy.
They also must be taught to obey the advice of parents, desert, and people who are older. In
addition they also must be taught to people who are honest, modest, generous, and
civilized. In addition, children should have a moral good friends, good character, intelligent,
and honest.
Al-ghazali
He
has
divided
knowledge
into
two
parts:
Religious knowledge (Ilm al-liyah ), and secular (or instrumental) knowledge (Ilm alliyah). The former is acquired from the Quran and Sunnah. It is the most dignified
knowledge and it is without doubt. The second type of knowledge is needed to enhance
the understanding of the former since it was a revelation. Imam al-Ghazali subdivided
the
secular
subjects
into
three
subcategories:
Beneficial knowledge: This encapsulates those sciences that will benefit society and
helps it to progress, e.g. medical knowledge and mathematics. Accordingly, the
acquisition of these sciences and disciplines is Fard al-Kifayyah, i.e. if nobody acquires it,
then
the
entire
Muslim
community
of
particular
locality
will
be
sinful.
Neutral Knowledge: This category encapsulates those disciplines that will not really
enhance ones beneficial knowledge but there is nothing wrong if they are studied, e.g.
the
history
of
England.
Harmful Knowledge: This category comprises of those disciplines which are harmful,
such as black magic and gambling. It is therefore, haram to acquire such knowledge.

Learning without thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous. (Confucius,
Analects)
(6) Freedom:
Freedom is considered as an integral aspect of human development. Education is a manmaking process, it explores the innate power exists within the man. It is not an imposition
rather a liberal process their provides utmost freedom to the individual for his all round
development. He says, Education has leaning only when it is imparted through the path of
freedom".
(7) Co-relation of Objects:
Co-relation exists with God, man and nature. A peaceful world is only possible when
correlation between man and nature will be established.
(8) Mother tongue as the medium of Instruction:
Language is the true vehicle of self-expression. Man can freely express his thought in his
mother-tongue. Tagore has emphasized mother tongue as the medium of instruction for the
child's education.
(9) Moral and Spiritual Development:
Tagore emphasized moral and spiritual training in his educational thought. Moral and
spiritual education is more important than bookish knowledge for an integral development of
human personality. There must be an adequate provision for the development of selfless
activities, co-operation and love fellow feeling and sharing among the students in
educational institutions.
(10) Social Development:
According to Tagore, "Brahma" the supreme soul manifests himself through men and other
creatures. Since He is the source of all human-beings and creatures, so all are equal.
Rabindranath Tagore therefore said, "service to man is service to god". All should develop
social relationship and fellow-feeling from the beginnings of one's life. Education aims at
developing the individual personality as well as social characters which enables him to live
as a worthy being.
