Stroke is a functional disorder of the brain that occurs suddenly with signs
and symptoms of both focal and global clinical lasting more than 24 hours, or can
lead to death due to circulatory disorders of the brain. Stroke ranks third leading
cause of death in Indonesia.Someone with stroke will undergo clinical and social
disruption that would cause a change in quality of life physically and mentally.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect on quality of life of stroke
infarction. The study used descriptive analytic cross-sectional study.The sampling
technique uses a judgmental sampling method. The samples obtained were 41
people, the distribution of the sample are 20 males and 21 females, 23 samples
below 60 years and 18 samples over 60 years, 12 sampleshad duration of
suffering a stroke less than 6 months and 29 samples above 6 months. Samples
derived from patients with stroke infarction in Neurology Polyclinic of RSSA
Malang.The independent variables in this study were age, sex, and duration of
suffering a stroke, while the quality of life physically and mentally is the
dependent variable. Quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 Health Survey.
The analysis used a linear regression test. The results obtained is significant in
the duration of suffering a stroke in the quality of life both physically (PHSS) and
mentally (MHSS). Statisticcalculation in PHSS resulting a positive direction,
indicating that the longer have suffered a stroke has improved effectively towards
a better quality of life(p = 0.002). The same results is also applied to MHSS
domain (p = 0,042). This study provides a holistic overview understanding of the
quality of life of stroke infarction patientsin the fields of physical and mental
qualities. It can be concluded that the duration suffering a stroke is the
determinant affecting the quality of life after stroke infarction.
