Background : Indonesia is a country that is famous for its biodiversity
where Indonesian tropical forest is the largest source diversity of plant
species. One kind of plant used as medicine by people is Portia Tree
(Thespesia populnea (L.) Soland ex Correa) especially for antimalarial
drug. Malaria is an infectious disease caused by protozoa of the
Plasmodium gene. This research was carried out by using Portia Tree
Leaves extract which containing flavonoids that can reduce free radicals
and prevent oxidative stress and can be used as an anti-malarial.
Objective : Knowing the effect of Portia Tree leaves extract (Thespesia
populnea (L.) Soland ex Correa) dose mg/KgBB as adjuvant therapy on
blood hematocrit levels of white male mice (Mus musculus) BALB/C strain
infected by Plasmodium berghei.
Method : This is a pure laboratories experimental research using post test
only group design method. Using 27 mices that comply the inclusion
criteria and were randomly divided into 3 groups: negative control group
(K-), positive control group (K+), and the treatment group (KT2). Where
each group on day 4th carried out the examination of blood hematocrit
levels.
Result : Kruskal-Wallis data analysis significant value is 0,571 (P>0,05).
H0 accepted H1 rejected.
Conclusion : Descriptively, the Portia Tree Leaves extract (Thespesia
populnea (L.) Soland ex Correa) 400 mg/KgBB as adjuvant therapy
increase blood hematocrit levels of white male mice (Mus musculus)
BALB/C strain infected by Plasmodium berghei. But, statistically the blood
hematocrit levels increasing are not significant.
