TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION IN REPORT TEXT BY

USING LISTEN, READ, AND DISCUSS STRATEGY AT JUNIOR HIGH

Abstrak
Penulisan jurnal ini bertujuan untuk membantu mengatasi salah satu dari
sekian banyak permasalahan yang ada dalam pengajaran membaca disekolah
lanjutan tingkat pertama (SLTP). Dalam pengajaran membaca siswa mendapat
banyak kesulitan karena beberapa factor yaitu kurangnya kosa kata dalam bahasa
inggris, kurangnya pemahaman mereka terhadap sebuah text dan tidak adanya
strategy yang digunakan guru dalam mengajar. Selain itu, jurnal ini juga
dimaksudkan sebagai masukan bagi guru-guru bahasa inggris dalam
melaksanakan pengajaran membaca sehingga menjadi daya tarik bagi siswa dalam
belajar membaca. Dalam jurnal ini, penulis membahas tentang bagaimana
mengajarkan reading melalui strategi mendengar, membaca, mendiskusikan
(Listen, Read, and Discuss strateg) dengan bertujuan membuat siswa lebih tertarik
dan memahami materi yang ada dalam reading tersebut.
Listen, Read, and Discuss yaitu sebuah strategi untuk memahami text
dengan cara mendengarkan (Listen) penjelasan guru, yaitu sebelum membaca,
guru memberikan penjelasan singkat tentang sebuah text, dan siswa
mendengarkan. Kemudian membaca text (Read) dimana siswa membaca text yang
diberikan oleh guru untuk membandingkan antara informasi dari text yang dibaca
dengan penjelasan guru sebelumnya. Kemudian, mendiskusikan (Discuss) yaitu
guru membentuk kelompok diskusi untuk mendiskusikan text tersebut dan
memberikan beberapa pertanyaan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa
