Nomor : 002/A/PDIPRO/BEM-KEMAFAR/II/2018
I. Pendahuluan
berjudul “Analysis of the Benefits and Side Effects of Bandrek”. Terpilihnya paper
sebagai World Class University.

ABSTRACT
Background: Indonesia has a variety of spices that have been famous for centuries ago. In
its utilization, the spices are processed into traditional food and drink. One of them is
bandrek. The main composition of bandrek is ginger (Zingiber officinale) and brown sugar.
Ginger has one of the bioactive compounds that can warm body as well as care for the
immunity system called zingeron. One drink that also has a warming effect is alcohol. Of
the two drinks have the same effect in warming, but the way the body system works in
producing this effect is quite different. The different work of body systems gives different
responses to the body.
Objective: To identify which drinking that can give the effect of warming the body better.
In addition, this paper is also designed to describe and explain the benefits and side effects
of both drinks if consumed.
Methods: This literature is composed of literature study method. The authors compiled

Results: Of the two drinks have the same effect in warming, but the way the body system
works in producing this effect is quite different. When consuming alcohol, the body's core
temperature will decrease, thus increasing the risk of hypothermia. The warming effect is
thought to be derived from the work of alcohol in making the circulation of blood become
widened, so that blood vessels dilate and send warm blood away from the core of body
towards the skin. High blood flow velocity will produce larger heat and give a warm effect

on the body. Meanwhile, when consuming bandrek, body temperature will increase, in
addition, the body will also stimulate the cells to produce more oxygen. The more oxygen
burned, the more heat will be given.
Conclusion: Based on the previous explanation, it can be concluded that bandrek can
give the effect of warming the body better than alcohol. Besides that, consuming bandrek
has many good effect in health due to a high antioxidant substance that contained in it.
