Nicholas Appert- 'Father of Canning'

Devised a method to preserve foodstuffs by stuffing the food in glass jars,
sealing them with cork and wax, and placing them in boiling water. A
precursor to modern preservation techniques. His invention came after
Napoleon offered 12,000 francs to the man who could develop a method to
preserve his army's food supplies.

The Folding Carton
In 1890, almost entirely by accident, a printer by the name of Robert Gair
invented the concept of the folding carton after a metal rule used for
creasing bags shifted its position and cut the bag. Gair decided that by
cutting and creasing cartons in one operation he could make prefabricated
cartons. Gair went on to found a packaging empire that still bears his
name.

utilise folding cartons.
Seeking a better way to package their crackers, Nabisco came across
Gair's folding cartons as a worthy alternative. The initial production order
was for 2 million units. Credited as the birth of the folding carton.
