ABSTRACT
Students in everyday life must have experienced anxiety, anxiety arises among
others when facing a thesis exam session. Anxiety that arises when thesis
examination is estimated to interfere with concentration and ability to think and
act during the exam. So that it will greatly affect the results achieved on the exam.
Individuals who have positive (adaptive) and effective coping mechanisms can
relieve or eliminate anxiety, on the contrary if negative (maladaptive) and
ineffective coping mechanisms will worsen health and increase the potential for
illness. This study aims to determine the relationship between coping mechanisms
and the level of anxiety facing thesis examinations for medical students in the
class of 2017. This study used a cross sectional research design. The sampling
technique used was total sampling with a total sample of 50 respondents. The
results showed that there was a significant relationship between coping
mechanisms and the level of anxiety facing the thesis exam (p = 0.001) <α 0.05.
Based on the results of the study, it is expected to be able to add insight and
learning about mental nursing applied in dealing with problems using adaptive
coping mechanisms.
