PENDAHULUAN

A. Latar Belakang
Dalam Bahasa Inggris terdapat beberapa jenis teks Bahasa Inggris atau yang
biasa disebut dengan Genre. Klasifikasi genre dalam Bahasa Inggris dipengaruhi oleh
beberapa hal, diantaranya tujuan penulis menuliskan teks tersebut, fungsi dari teks
tersebut, stuktur kebahasaan yang dipakai, ciri-ciri bahasa apa yang digunakan dalam
teks tersebut.
Jenis teks Bahasa Inggris dipelajari sebagai materi pembelajaran utama dalam
mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk Sekolah Menengah Atas. Kebanyakan waktu
ketika mempelajari jenis teks Bahasa Inggris dihabiskan untuk membahas Generic
Structure dan Language Features yang digunakan sebagai bahan menyusun sebuah
teks.
Terdapat 13 jenis teks dalam Bahasa Inggris, yaitu Narrative Text, Recount
Text, Procedure Text, Report Text, Analyticl Exposition Text, Hortatory Exposition
Text, Explanation Text, Descriptive Text, Discussion Text, News Item Text, Review
Text, Anecdote Text, dan Spoof Text.
Sehubungan dengan pentingnya pengetahuan seperti yang tersebut diatas
itulah yang membuat penulis memilih topik mengenai jenis-jenis teks Bahasa Inggris
yang akan membahas tentang Recount Text sebagai bahan kajian dalam pembuatan
makalah ini.
B. Tujuan
1) Mengetahui Definisi Teks Recount.
2) Mengetahui Stuktur Generik Teks Recount.
3) Mengetahui Karakter Linguistik Teks Recount.
4) Mengetahui Perbedaan Teks Recount dengan Jenis-Jenis Teks Lainnya.

PEMBAHASAN

A. Definition of Recount Text (Definisi Teks Recount)

Literally, Recount means “telling”. So, Recount Text can be translated into
“the text tells”. Recount Text is one of the types of English text which retells events
or experiences in the past. Purpose of Recount Text is to provide information or to
entertain the reader. In the Recount Text as there is no complication in the Narrative
Text.
Secara harfiah, Recount bermakna “menceritakan”. Jadi, Recount Text bisa
diartikan menjadi “teks yang menceritakan”. Recount Text adalah salah satu dari
jenis teks Bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan kembali kejadian-kejadian atau
pengalaman-pengalaman di masa lampau. Tujuan dari Recount Text adalah untuk
memberikan informasi atau untuk menghibur pembaca. Di dalam Recount Text tidak
terdapat komplikasi seperti halnya di Narrative Text.

B. Generic Structure of Recount Text (Stuktur Generik Teks Recount)

Generic structure of recount text, consisting of :
Struktur generik (susunan umum) teks recount, terdiri dari :
1. Orientation (Pengenalan)
Orientation is provides information about who, where, and when events or activities
that occured in the past.
Pengenalan yaitu memberikan informasi tentang siapa, dimana, dan kapan peristiwa
atau kegiatan itu terjadi di masa lampau.
2. Events (Peristiwa)
Event is a record of events that occured, which is usually presented in chronological
order, like “In the first day, I ... . And in the next day ... . And in the last day ...”. Also
at the event there is usually a personal comment on the event or events that are told.
 Events merupakan rekaman peristiwa yang terjadi, yang biasanya disampaikan dalam
urutan kronologis, seperti “In the first day, I ... . And in the next day ... . And in the
last day ...”. Di bagian events ini juga biasanya terdapat komentar pribadi tentang
peristiwa atau kejadian yang diceritakan.
3. Re-orientation (Re-orientasi)
On the re-orientation, there is a recognition that there is repetition in orientation,
repetition which summarizes a series of events, occurrences, or events that are told.
Pada bagian re-orientation, terdapat pengulangan pengenalan yang ada di orientation,
pengulangan yang merangkum rentetan peristiwa, kejadian, atau kegiatan yang
diceritakan.

C. Character Linguistic of Recount Text (Karakter Linguistik Teks Recount)

Character lingusitic of recount teks, covering :
Karakter linguistik (ciri-ciri kebahasaan) dari recount text, meliputi :
1. Using the Past Tense. For example we went to zoo, I was happy, etc.
Menggunakan Past Tense. Misalkan we went to zoo, I was happy, dan lain-lain.
2. Uses the Conjunction and Time Connectives to sequence events or happenings.
For example and, but, the, after that, etc.
Menggunakan Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan peristiwa
atau kejadian. Misalnya and, but, the, after that, dan lain-lain.
3. Use of Adverbs and Adverbial Phrases to express place, time, and manner. For
example yesterday, at my house, etc.
Menggunakan Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan tempat,
waktu, dan cara. Misalkan yesterday, at my house, dan lain-lain.
4. Use Action Verbs. For example went, slept, run, brought, etc.
Menggunakan Action Verbs. Misalkan went, slept, run, brought, dan lain-lain.
D. Differences Recount Text With Other Text (Perbedaan Teks Recount
Dengan Teks Yang Lainnya)
1. Recount Text with Narrative Text (Teks Recount dengan Teks Naratif)
Differences were found in the recount text with narrative text, the following :

Fortunately, my Mom gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the acnes started to
vanish although those showed some black spots in my face.
Re-orientation
That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of good
experience too.
Example 2 (Contoh 2)
A Beautiful Day at Jogja
Orientation
Last week, my friend and I went to Jogja. We visited many places.
Events
First, we visited Parangtritis beach. The sun shone brightly and the scenery was very
beautiful there. We felt the wind blew across to us. We also saw a lot of people in that
beach. There were many birds flew in the sky. Also, there were many sellers who
sold many kinds of souvenirs. Second, we visited Gembira Loka Zoo. We saw many
kinds of animals there such as monkeys, tigers, crocodiles, snakes, etc. We looked
around in that zoo and also took pictures of those animals. Then, we felt hungry, so
we went to a restaurant. As soon as we finished our lunch, we decided to go home.
Re-orientation
For me, that was a beautiful day. We really enjoyed it and I hope I could visit Jogja
again.
Example 3 (Contoh 3)
My Bad Day on Sunday
Orientation
I had a terrible day yesterday.
Events
First, I woke up an hour late because my alarm clock didn’t go off. Then, I was in
such as hurry that I burned my hand when I was making breakfast. After breakfast, I
got dressed so quickly that I forgot to wear socks.
Next, I ran out of the house trying to get the 9:30 bus, but of course I missed it. I
wanted to take a taxi, but I didn’t have enough money.
Re-orientation
Finally, I walked the three miles to my school only to discover that it was Sunday! I
hope I never have a day as the one I had yesterday.

A. Kesimpulan
Recount Text adalah salah satu dari jenis teks Bahasa Inggris yang
menceritakan kembali kejadian-kejadian atau pengalaman-pengalaman di masa
lampau. Tujuan dari Recount Text adalah untuk memberikan informasi atau untuk
menghibur pembaca.
Struktur generik (susunan umum) teks recount, terdiri dari :

B. Saran
Setelah pembaca membaca makalah ini, diharapkan pembaca lebih
mengetahui dan mengerti mengenai definisi recount text, generic structure, dan
character linguistik, serta perbedaan recount text dengan teks lainnya.
