Children with disabilities are those who often do not get health care or go to
school. Even though every human being is no exception, a blind person has the
right to fulfill their needs, especially growth and development. Family is the first
place where a child grows and develops and this is also supported by the
parenting style applied. Children with visual impairments are certainly different
from ordinary children in general, giving rise to unique experiences in parents
who care for them.
The purpose of this study is to gain a deep understanding of parents' experiences
in caring for children with visual impairments, find reactions to acceptance of
parents in interpreting what happened, constraints that must be overcome, and
hopes for their children.
This research method uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological
approach. Sampling used is purposive sampling with the number of three
informants and data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews.
The results of this study obtained seven themes, namely: 1) The onset of visual
disturbances; 2) Efforts to provide help; 3) The efforts of parents direct children's
potential in memorizing the Qur'an and religious activities; 4) Reactions to the
Acceptance of Children; 5) Parents have difficulty dealing with emotional
development of blind children; 6) Parenting Parents; 7) Expectation of fulfilling
children's rights.
The results of this study are expected to be input for health services regarding the
fulfillment of the needs and rights of growth and development of children with
disabilities so that nurses can provide intervention in nursing care especially for
blind children with disabilities and as a basis for planning nursing care and
preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services optimal.
