Menjelang akhir tahun 2016 ini, Marvel tidak ketinggalan untuk memberikan satu lagi
film superhero untuk melengkapi jajaran film Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3.
Dimulai dengan Captain America: Civil War yang mengawali MCU Phase 3 tersebut
yang tayang awal tahun ini, kini terhitung 26 Oktober 2016 untuk pasar Indonesia
telah tayang resmi film Doctor Strange, turut melengkapi daftar superhero baru
dalam franchise ini.

Berbeda dengan film-film superhero Marvel Studios lainnya yang lebih kuat dan
bergantung kepada kekuatan sains, teknologi modern atau mungkin memang adalah
dewa dari dunia lain, Doctor Strange pun memberikan sudut pandang lain terhadap
apa yang membuat sebuah karakter dapat disebut sebagai pahlawan berkekuatan
super; yakni dengan kemampuan sihir.

Dari Ahli Bedah, Menjadi Ahli Sihir

Stephen Strange tidak lahir dengan kemampuan sihir, akan tetapi ia awalnya adalah
seorang dokter ahli bedah yang terkenal dan telah berpengalaman melakukan berbagai
operasi yang mustahil untuk dilakukan. Atas kemampuan bedahnya tersebut, Strange
tak hanya mendapatkan penghargaan dan kekayaan, tetapi juga meninggikan
keangkuhan serta egonya.

Namun, kehidupannya berubah total ketika ia mengalami kecelakaan mobil yang

menyebabkan kedua tangannya tak mampu lagi menjalankan kewajibannya sebagai
seorang dokter bedah. Dalam kondisi terdesak dan ingin menyembuhkan kedua
tangannya secara total, Strange mencari jawabannya hingga ke Nepal, di mana
Kamar-Taj berada dan mulai berguru dengan The Ancient One. Dari sana, Strange
pun mulai belajar sesuatu hal yang tak bisa ia jawab hanya dengan berpegang pada
pengetahuan ilmu sains dan logika semata.
Tentu saja, bukan berarti tidak ada bahaya yang mengancam. Kaecilius, murid The
Ancient One terdahulu, telah membelot dan hendak mempraktekkan mantra terlarang
dan memanggil kekuatan gelap untuk mengubah dunia. Mau tidak mau, Strange pun
harus terlibat dalam pertarungan yang melibatkan kekuatan mistis tersebut.

Fresh, Penuh Hal Baru dan Selera Humor Tinggi

Jika dibandingkan dengan durasi film Marvel Studios lainnya, Doctor Strange
memiliki durasi yang jauh lebih pendek dengan hanya sepanjang 115 menit saja. Hal
ini tentunya membuat masih banyak hal yang cenderung kurang jelas dan mendetil
akan universe maupun latar belakang tokoh lainnya, ditambah dengan ending yang
sedikit lebih mengambang. Walau begitu, harus diakui bahwa Marvel cukup berani
untuk memberikan nuansa yang sama sekali berbeda dan “fresh” sebagai tambahan
untuk jajaran film Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Dunia yang diperlihatkan dalam Doctor Strange sangat berbeda dengan yang biasa
terlihat dalam beberapa film superhero Marvel lainnya. Film ini lebih menjelaskan
tentang kemungkinan adanya dunia pararel, dimensi lain serta kemampuan mistik dan
sihir di Bumi; di mana semuanya ini akan membuka kemungkinan dan hal baru
untuk film-film Marvel Cinematic Universe ke depannya. Didukung dengan efek CGI
dan animasi yang halus, Doctor Strange memberikan pengalaman yang jauh berbeda
dibandingkan film-film Marvel Studios lainnya. Sedikit trippy dan
beraspek psychedelic di beberapa adegan aksinya, penuh hal mistik nan “aneh”,
namun tetap terlihat indah dan tidak bertopik “berat” untuk ditonton.
Seleksi jajaran artis yang terlibat di dalam film Doctor Strange juga terbilang pintar,
dengan melibatkan jajaran artis Hollywood yang tengah naik daun sehingga masing-
masing mampu memperlihatkan kemampuan akting yang baik dan membuat film ini
menjadi lebih menarik untuk disaksikan. Alur kisah yang mengalir lurus dan tetap
fokus dalam inti cerita, dengan tetap memberikan beberapa adegan aksi dan
pertarungan sengit, juga disertai humor yang cukup untuk membuat para penontonnya
tertawa tetapi tidak merusak suasana maupun kisah yang dibangun dalam film ini
menjadi nilai plus tersendiri.

Jika Anda memiliki rencana untuk menontonnya, pastikan untuk menontonnya dalam
format IMAX untuk pengalaman menonton yang lebih maksimal. Dan jangan lupa,
jangan keluar bioskop dulu sebelum menonton adegan ekstra di mid-credits dan end-
credits!
