SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
INTERNATIONAL CAMP

Introduction
In conjunction with the aim for the Sustainable Development Goals, the 1st Iskandar
Puteri Sustainable Development Goals International Camp was carefully structured with
the mission to create a platform to network and extend friendships among youth in the
state, national and regional levels. This camp boasts a variety of programmes and
activities based on the 17 Global Goals, Betterworld Framework and Industry Revolution
4.0 that serves to enlighten, spread awareness and instil current values through the

Sustainable Development Goals International Camp.

"Malaysia believes in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals but between

believing in it and achieving it off course we know it's not an easy matter. There are
many goals to be achieved before we can say we have reached the goal ofbecoming
sustainably developed."

Objectives

The 1st Iskandar Puteri Sustainable Development Goals International Camp seeks to
achieve the following objectives:

1. To create a network of SDG friendships from the state level right up to the international
level with a target of 800/0 Malaysian participants including staff and 200/0 international
participants.

2. To provide 800/0 of SDG activities that are exclusive and glocal in an attempt to produce
a first-class community especially via the Better World Framework and the introduction
of Industrial Revolution 4.0.

3. To conduct various SDG-related activities to provide an experience to participants from

various backgrounds to identify the current global challenges and to upskill and
motivate them to face these challenges not only as a community or nation, but as a
globe.

Background

End poverty, fight inequality, and stop climate change.

To create a better world, these are some of the main challenges we will have to take on.
However, these can't be tackled alone. How can active global citizens from around the
world come together to address these issues? Luckily, there is plan for this.

In 2015, all member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development. It sets 17 goals, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
as the central plan to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. This agenda
offers a universal framework that integrates sustainable development and global
citizenship, emphasizing that everyone has a role to play for it to succeed.

These goals cannot be achieved without the contribution of young people. This is the
largest generation of young people in history which means they need to be involved today
as leaders, partners, and innovators in global agendas for sustainable development
(UNFPA, 2014). The 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs are a great learning opportunity for
young people to help them understand complex issues, and to find new ways of engaging
with their communities.

Transformative education that equips new generations with the needed competencies to
promote sustainable development is key to achieving these goals by 2030.

ISKANDAR PUTERI
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
INTERNATIONAL CAMP

This is where Scouting comes in. Since its beginnings, Scouting has been enabling
young people from every corner of the globe to create positive change in their communities,
acting on challenges and needs at all levels of society. It uses an action-oriented, self
educational approach to contribute to the empowerment and holistic development of young
people as autonomous individuals and active global citizens.

The 1st Iskandar Puteri Sustainable Development Goals International Camp 2019 is inline
with the Scouting Methods of learning by doing. It aims to use the action-oriented, self
educational approach to empower the young people of today as autonomous individuals
and active global citizens. However, this cannot be done without first giving them the
required awareness and education. This camp aims to throng 2000 of today's youth from
in and out Malaysia and together explore the Sustainable Development Goals. By the end
of this 5-day adventure, it is hoped that they will return feeling empowered and continue
to fight to achieve sustainability.

Development Goals' by World Scout Bureau Inc. (2018)

Proposed Content

The 1st Iskandar Puteri Sustainable Development Goals International Camp will be divided
into 3 main components:

1. Sustainable Development Goals Component - This component will consist of 18 bases

mainly aimed to spread awareness and to educate participants on the Sustainable
Development Goals.

2. Better World Framework Component - This component will let the participants experience
the Sustainable Development Goals from the lens of the scouting movement. The bases
will consist of activities and workshops heavily based on the programmes by WOSM
launched via the Better World Framework.

3. Industrial Revolution 4.0 - This component aims to expose as much as possible about
Industry 4.0 to the participants and the public on Industrial Revolution 4.0. This
component also aims to provide a platform for participants to get to know the industries
connected to Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The program will include sessions focusing on spreading awareness, providing education,
empowering youth as game changers and to instil values for participants to act and make
an impact. The program will address the theme of youth as leaders and empowered agents
