AGREEMENT ON ISLAMIC SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL CO-OPERATION
BETWEEN ‘THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA
Proceeding from their religious and their common desire to
strengthen and further fraternal relationship and co- operation in
Islamic scientific,art and educational fields with aview to realizing
maximum understanding through mutual co- operation in these fields,
‘the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of
the Kingdan of Saudi Arabia have agreed upon the following :
ARTICLE ONE
‘The two Governments shall endeavour to develop relations in
Islamic scientific, art and educational fields between their
vespectiive countries with aview to promoting —_ reciprocal
understanding of their civilization and history through appropriate
Islamic, Scientific and Technical Institutions. To such an end, they
shall organize lectures as well as scientific and artistic
exhibitions, exchange visits by students and teachers, the promotion
of co- operation among Islamic, scientific, artistic, literary and
other institutions engaged in the advancement of science and
imowledge through the exchange of publications, archeological
reproductions and scientific films.
ARTICLE ‘TWO
‘The two Governments shall encourage and facilitate the
exchange of academic staff menbers of universities and Islamic
Institutions in accordance with the conditions agreed uponby the
governments.
ARTICLE THREE
Each Goverment will offer nationals of the other country
all possible facilities to enable then to joint Islamic educational
institutions in their respective countries, and shall endeavour to
yemove any obstacles on this way especially as regards the equation
of academic degrees granted by educational institutions of the two
countries.ARTICLE FOUR
The two Governments shall allocate scholarship to the
nationals of other country to enable them to joint its universities
or educational intitutes or to specialize in the scientific,
technical and educational fields needed by the other country.
ARTICLE FIVE
The two Governments shall incorporate in its educational
curricula such syllabuses as would be edequate to acquaint nationals
with the history and geography of the other country so that their
youth would be properly enlightened and sufficiently provided with
knowledge of the bonds of civilization and common history between the
two sisterly countries. The Indonesian Government shall take
necessary measures for the teaching of Arabic language in its
educational institutions. The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia shall extend the Government of the Republic of Indonesia every
possible support in this respect especially as regard the development
of the centre of Islamic studies and the Arabic language in Indonesia.
ARTICLE SIX_
The two Governments shall facilitate visits by scientists ,
scholars and men of letters to the mseums and libraries in their
respective countries,and shall give the access to the rare documents
and manuscripts of comon interest to both countries.
ARTICLE SEVEN
‘The two Governmentsshall promote the axchange of visits by
delegations between the two countries by providing every available
to then.
ARTICLE EIGHT
‘The two contracting parties agreed to establish a Joint
Saudi - Indonesia Committee with equal membership to be entrusted
with the implementation of the present Agreement. The Committee shall
lay down the progranmes conducive to this end, and shall work out
the details of the article of Agreement and followup the
implementation thereof.Be
ARTICLE NINE
‘The implementation of the articles of the present Agreanent
shall be subject to the rules and regulations in force in both
countries.
ARTICLE TEN
‘The present Agreement shall be ratified in accordance with
the established procedures in either country, and shall be effective
fifteen days after the instruments of ratification have been exchanged.
ARTICLE ELEVEN
Should there arises any other subject of common interest
out side the purview of this Agreement a separate agreement
could be made in order to foster relationship between the two
Governments.
ARTICLE TWELVE
‘The present Agreement shall remain in force and shall be
automatically renewed unless either of the two Governments notifies
the other at a six months notice of its desire to terminate it.
In witness hereof the present Agreenent was signed and
stamped by the two authorized representatives named hereafter.
Done in Riyadh on Tuesday, 15thof Rajab 1401 4H,
corresponding to 19th of M a y 1981 AD, in two original copies, each
in the the Indonesian, Arabic and English languages, all the texts
being equally authentic.
