Abstract
COVID-19 is a disease with very fast transmission. Disease transmission among nurses and other
health workers is getting worse. This is exacerbated by the confusion of operational standards for
installing and removing personal protective equipment such as inappropriate use of personal
protective equipment and non-standard hand washing procedures. This study aims to describe the
compliance with the use and release of universal safety precautions for operating room nurses during
the COVID-19 period at the Central Surgical Installation of dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2020. This
research was conducted at the Central Surgery Installation (IBS) Dr. M.Djamil Padang from
November 2020 - January 2021. This type of research is quantitative with adesign descriptive
conducted on 60 respondents using total sampling technique. This study uses an observation sheet.
The results showed that all nurses in the red, yellow and green zones obeyed the use of universal
safety precautions, while 36.7% ofrespondents Green Zone (out of 30 respondents) and 23.3% of Red
Zone and Yellow Zone respondents (from 30 respondents) did not comply with the release of universal
safety precautions, overall (30.0%) nurses who served in the surgical installation of Dr. M. Djamil
Padang did not comply with the release of PPE. It is hoped that knowing the description of nurses'
compliance in using universal safety precautions for health services can increase compliance in the
release of PPE by conducting regular training and supervision by the head of the room..
