ABSTRAK
Including to WHO (2005) Foodborne disease is one of the most massive and
burdensome public health problems ever found in modern times.It caused by
personal hygiene that is not good by food handlers. Therefore, this research aims
to know the knowledge, attitude and demographic variables with personal hygiene
at rujak Simpang Jodoh Traders in sub district of Medan Tembung, that
conducted from April to May in 2018. This research is an analytic survey
research by using cross sectional study. The number of samples taken in this study
were 31 samples taken with total sampling technique. The sample data analysis
consisted of univariate and bivariate analysis by using chi square statistical test.
The results of this study indicate that food traders who have poor personal
hygiene (54.8%). Characteristics of food traders respondents on variables: age
35-44 years (41.9%), female sex (93.5%), elementary school (junior high school
(58.1%) and duration > 5 years (54.8% ), as well as the knowledge and attitude
variables (61.3%) and 58.1%, respectively, had poor personal hygiene. The
conclusion of this study show that the variables of knowledge, attitude and
demography (education and duration of work) found a significant relationship
with personal hygiene at rujak Simpang Jodoh traders in sub district of Medan
Tembung. The recommendation of this research which the need to increase the
good supervision of food rujak trader in Medan Tembung Sub-district from the
authorized party that is Health Departemen of City of Medan.
