CITRUS NURSERY IN POTS

Citrus plants are annual fruit plants which are generally cultivated in large fields or
gardens, but some people have limited land ownership, so citrus plants are planted
in pots (Tabulampot) in the yard around the house where they live.

1. The advantage

 Fruiting faster at the age of 1-2 years (Siam, Tangerine, Limau, Nipis, Pamelo)

 Maintenance is relatively easier because it is around the house where you live

 As a source of additional income and a source of family nutrition

 Decorating the home environment and easy to move to another place.

Necessary Materials and Equipmen

 Orange seeds 1-2 years old

 Pots made of cement, plastic or drum with a diameter of 35-50 cm and a

height of 60 cm

 Topsoil

 Manure or compost

 NPK Fertilizer (16-16-16)

 Pruning shears, gembor, hoe and 2 liter sprayer

 Pesticide
2.How to Plant

 Prepare the planting medium

 Mix 2 parts of topsoil with 1 part of manure and 1 part of husk, then mix

thoroughly using a hoe.

 Cover the pot/drum hole with enough tiles, so that water doesn't stagnate in

the pot.

 Fill the pot with planting medium until it contains two-thirds of the pot

 Plant orange seeds in pots, then fill with the planting medium until it is full

 Water the seeds that have been planted until all the planting media is quite wet by

using hype.

 Maintenance

1. Watering is done during the dry season once every 2-3 days adjusted to

the humidity conditions of the planting medium. It should be noted that

if the conditions of the planting medium are too muddy for a long time,

it will cause root damage so that the leaves will turn yellow.

2. Fertilization is done routinely once a month using a mixture of 15-25

grams of NPK 16-16-16 and 25 grams of Urea.

3. Pest and disease control is carried out when the plants are growing new

shoots, especially aphids, trips and leafworms using insecticides with

the active ingredient Alfamethrin/imidachloroprit at a dose of 0.5-1

ml/liter of water, sprayed using a sprayer evenly every week for 3

times spray. It should be noted that most of the citrus plant pests come
when new shoots are growing and and when the flowers bloom until

the fruit is approaching old fruit enlargement.

4. Pruning is done on shoots that grow on the rootstock, water shoots,

shoots that grow at the ends of branches that grow too much and leave

the 3 best

 Stimulating Flowering

Citrus plants in pots are more than 2 years old, if their growth is lush physically

they are able to bear fruit, but if their intake of nutrients and water is continuously

(naturally) adequate they are reluctant to bear fruit. On the other hand, in the dry

season, potted plants often experience drought (stress) of water until the condition

withers semi-permanently, so the watering that we will do will stimulate the

growth of new shoots, which will be followed by the appearance of flowers. We

apply this stressful condition every time we plan the flowering of citrus plants in

pots.

 Stages of doing water stress on Tabulampot:

1. Tabulampot age at least 1-2 years

2. Plants are stopped growing / dormant

3. Leave it unwatered for 2-5 days until the leaves wilt semi-

permanently

4. During the rainy season, water stress is carried out by covering

the pot with plastic so that the plants are not exposed to

rainwater. After the leaves have withered semi-permanently,

remove the plastic cover and then water it.

5. Fertilize the plants at a rate of 40-50 grams of NPK(16-16-16)

mixed with 25 grams of urea, then sprinkle with water until

moist.

6. For further maintenance, try to keep the planting medium

moist and prevent it from drying out.

7. After 10-15 days (since water stress) new shoots will grow and

the next 7 days flowers will appear.

8. If the water stress treatment is carried out when the leaves are

young or when new shoots are growing, flowers will usually

not appear.
