Apa Itu Pronoun?

Pronoun adalah kata ganti yang dipakai untuk menggantikan fungsi noun dalam sebuah
kalimat sehingga tidak perlu lagi mengulang kata yang sama dalam satu kalimat atau
paragraf.

Personal Pronoun

Bentuk-bentuk personal prounoun

Bentuk yang pertama adalah personal pronoun. Ada dua bentuk nih, dari jenis yang satu ini.

1. Subject Pronoun
Subject pronoun merupakan jenis yang posisinya menjadi subjek kalimat seperti dalam
susunan SPOK.

Dalam grammar bahasa Inggris, jenis ini berfungsi sebagai pelaku dalam kalimat.
Setidaknya, ada tujuh subject pronoun yang dapat digunakan dalam menyusun kalimat
sempurna.

We We believe you can handle this

They They go to school together

He He calls Jin in the morning

She She is the new teacher

It/This/That The wallet is in the drawer. It has black leather

2. Object Pronoun

Berkebalikan dengan subject pronoun, object pronoun berperan sebagai terlaku dalam
kalimat. Sehingga, beberapa pronoun mengalami perubahan subjek.

Coba perhatikan contoh kalimat berikut:

Me Suga called me yesterday.

You Mother is looking for you.

Us Teacher told us to bring lunch tomorrow.

Them Headmaster told them to wait.

Him Annabelle had class together with him yesterday.

 Her Her car was broken.

It/This/That The glass is fragile. Please put it carefully.

Those/These I will bake new cookies. You can eat those.

Possessive Pronoun

Seperti possessive adjective pronoun, possessive pronoun merupakan kata ganti yang
menunjukkan kepemilikan seseorang terhadap sesuatu. Perbedaannya, possessive
pronoun didahului oleh noun yang dimiliki.

Tidak hanya itu, possessive noun juga bisa digunakan untuk menghindari pengulangan dua
kata noun yang sama.

Contohnya “Your chair is right next to theirs” dapat digunakan untuk menggantikan
kalimat “Your chair is right next to their chair”.

Reflexive Pronoun
Jika jenis lainnya digunakan untuk merujuk kepemilikan seseorang terhadap benda, reflexive
pronoun digunakan untuk merujuk sesuatu ke diri sendiri.

Jenis ini terdiri atas pronoun tunggal dan jamak. Supaya elo lebih paham dengan jenis ini,
coba pahami contoh-contoh dalam tabel di bawah ini:

Possessive Adjective Pronoun

Possessive adjective pronoun berfungsi sebagai kata ganti orang untuk menunjukkan
kepemilikan terhadap sesuatu. Biasanya, jenis ini akan diikuti oleh noun yang dimiliki oleh
orang yang bersangkutan.

Bentuk ini juga mengalami perubahan dari subject dan object pronoun.

Pronoun “I” tetap berfungsi sebagai subjek pronoun di kalimat kedua.

Sedangkan kita dapat berasumsi bahwa pada kalimat pertama object pronoun yang terkait
dengan kalimat berikutnya adalah “him” karena ada subject pronoun “he” pada kalimat
berikutnya.

Jadi, jawabannya adalah C.

Soal 2

Which of the following sentences is correct?

a. She lent me hers pen yesterday. She is so kind.

b. I think it is Maria’s pen. It’s not your’s.

c. We will book our’s tomorrow. Don’t worry.

d. This smartphone is so sophisticated. It’s different with my.

e. Can you check this answer? I think mine is incorrect.

Jawaban A salah karena seharusnya tidak perlu ada noun yang menyertainya. Sedangkan
pilihan B dan C tidak perlu menggunakan apostrophe.

Jawaban D salah karena seharusnya menjadi possessive pronoun yaitu “mine“, atau perlu
penambahan noun setelahnya.

Pilihan jawaban E sudah menggunakan penulisan possessive pronoun yang benar.
