Teori Kelly seringkali disebut sebagai “meta teori” yaitu teori tentang teori
Menurut Kelly, setiap orang hidup di dunia nyata, tetapi perilaku mereka
dibentuk oleh interpretasi atau konsepsi mereka tentang dunia ini
Sepanjang hidupnya, manusia berusaha untuk memahami dunia seperti hal-
nya seorang ilmuwan (generate & test hypotheses about the way the world
works) person as scientist. Mereka mengembangkan berbagai construct
sepanjang hidupnya
Mereka menginterpretasikan dunia dengan cara mereka sendiri dan setiap
konsepsi bisa direvisi atau digantikan construct yang sudah ada dapat
diperbaiki, dimodifikasi atau dielaborasi karena manusia dan peristiwa selalu
berubah dari waktu ke waktu. Tidak ada construct yang final/absolut

Dalam pandangan Kelly, orang yang “sehat” mampu
memvalidasi konstrak pribadinya dengan pengalaman di dunia
nyata
Orang yang “sehat” bukan hanya mengatisipasi namun juga
membuat penyesuaian jika terjadi hal-hal yang tidak
diinginkan (fleksibel)
Di sisi lain, orang yang “tidak sehat” adalah orang yang
konstraknya tidak diperbaharui, takut validasi konstrak baru
yang akan merusak pandangan mereka tentang dunia saat ini
(takut akan perubahan)
