ABSTRACT
Background: Toothache is the most frequent cause why patients come to the dentist. There is not many people know, there are
many natural ingredients that contain a pain reliever and formerly used for relieving toothache in the general community, one of
them is the Sidaguri root. Because the lack of studies that investigate the effect of Sidaguri root to relieve pain, this study assumes
this as background of the research. This is also consistent with government program to enhance the empowernment of traditional
medicine as in Research-Based Health Care Improvement. Purpose: The purpose of this study to determine whether the plant
roots sidaguri (S. rhombifolia) has effect as an analgesic. Methods: Analgesic effect of Sidaguri roots test done using the hot plate
(50C) with 5 different doses (0.15, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2 and 2.4 g/kg body weight) which were administered to white mice to see comparison
on the length of reaction time to the heat of the hot plate. Results: Sidaguri roots have analgesic effects on the dose concentration of
0.6 g/kg body weight, increased in a dose of 1.2 g/kg body weight, and the largest effect is obtained at a dose of 2.4 g/kg body weight,
compared to other doses and positive controls. Conclusion: Sidaguri roots have been proven to have analgesic effects, therefore
treatment with sidaguri roots in toothache incident can be an alternative to the traditional treatment for the community.

PENDAHULUAN
Sakit gigi merupakan penyebab paling sering
pasien datang ke dokter gigi. Sakit gigi timbul
seringkali akibat dari penyakit pulpa dan periapikal.
Penyakit pulpa dan periapikal akibat bakteri
ini dapat menyebabkan radang dan nyeri yang
mengganggu aktivitas sehari-hari, mulai dari derajat
ringan hingga berat.1

Hewan percobaan
akan memberikan respon terhadap nyeri dengan
menggunakan atau menjilat kaki depan. Peningkatan
waktu reaksi yaitu waktu antara pemberian stimulus
nyeri dan terjadinya respon dapat dijadikan
parameter untuk evaluasi aktivitas analgesik.4,5
