EXPLANATION
Text 1 for questions 1 to 4
Recycling is a collection, processing, and reuse of materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
Materials ranging from precious metals to broken glass, from old newspapers to plastic spoons, can be
recycled. The recycling process reclaims the original material and uses it in new products.
In general, using recycled materials to make new products costs less and requires less energy than
using new materials. Recycling can also reduce pollution, either by reducing the demand for high-pollution
alternatives or by minimizing the amount of pollution produced during the manufacturing process.
Paper products that can be recycled include cardboard containers, wrapping paper, and office paper.
The most commonly recycled paper product is newsprint. In newspaper recycling, old newspapers are
collected and searched for contaminants such as plastic bags and aluminum foil. The paper goes to a
processing plant where it is mixed with hot water and turned into pulp in a machine that works much like a
big kitchen blender. The pulp is screened and filtered to remove smaller contaminants. The pulp then goes to
a large vat where the ink separates from the paper fibers and fl oats to the surface. The ink is skimmed off,
dried and reused as ink or burned as boiler fuel. The cleaned pulp is mixed with new wood fibers to be made
into paper again.
Experts estimate the average office worker generates about 5 kg of wastepaper per month. Every ton
of paper that is recycled saves about 1.4 cu m (about 50 cu ft) of landfill space. One ton of recycled paper
saves 17 pulpwood trees (trees used to produce paper).

Text 2 for questions 5 to 9
Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to build up new cells and
replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substances that can be
carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion.
The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces
by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. Saliva contain digestive
juices which moisten the food, so it can be swallowed easily.
From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into stomach. Here, the food
is mixed with juices secreted by the cells in stomach for several hours. Then the food enters the small
intestine. All time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the onwards.
In a few hours, the food changes into acids. These are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic branch
projections from the intestine walls) and passed into the bloodstream.

DISCUSSION
Text 1 for questions 1 to 4
The government has decided to submit the draft of the bill against pornography and pornographic
acts. The bill states that anyone engaging in pornography is punishable by law. This includes public acts such
as spouses kissing and people sunbathing in bikini or swimwear. As a consequence, the bill causes
controversy.
The government argues that the bill is made to protect womens right. Women have so far been the
object of exploitation in mass media and this only gives more benefits to the owner of the business.
Woman activists, on the other hand, argue that the bill will limit womens freedom. They believe the
bill will dictate what women should wear and on how to dress and behave. If they fail following the rule they

Text 2 for questions 5 to 6
Television has certainly changed our lives. Today, most people prefer watching TV to going to the
cinema. Without it, nobody would have paid much attention to national or international historical, political,
sport, etc events. Even, television proved that pictures of suffering can move a nation to pity. Besides,
many things can be learnt from TV
Are there any advantages of TV? Many parents admitted that they found difficulties to stop their
childrens bad habit, for example, they spend their leisure time for watching TV more than reading. Children

Text 3 for questions 7 to 10

Muslims Headscarf

The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the UN charter and considered by many to be a basic
human right. Some religions require special diet, others prayer at specific times. Why should a religious
mode of dress receive as much protection as these other aspects of religious freedom?
Many Muslim women view the veil as a means to protect their modesty and privacy. Just as we
would not force any women to be seen in public in her underwear if she did not feel comfortable doing so,
why should a woman be forced to show her hair if she does not want to? Modesty is a personal judgement,
some are comfortable in the smallest bikini while others prefer a lot more clothing. No one but the woman
herself should make that decision.
Muslim women are not the only ones to feel coerced over their mode of dress. Most people are
affected by the societal norms surrounding them. Fashion trends could be seen in exactly the same light as
religious traditions.
Banning head coverings is only likely to provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious
communities. Framing laws to ban only Islamic forms of dress could be considered an attack on one religion.
Feeling under attack could cause the Islamic community to close off into itself. They could set up religious
schools where their children can dress as they want them to and not mix with children from other faiths.
These effects could never be good for the integration of society and would further the influence of
extremists. Internationally, the perceived attack on Islamic values would inflame wider Muslim opinion, feed
conspiracy theories and add to the dangerous feeling that there is a clash of civilisations.
Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing Muslims freedom of religious
expression. In a multicultural society, students should be aware of the different religious practise and cultural
traditions of their classmates, and be taught to understand and respect these.
Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslims headscarf as a part of
school or office uniforms.
7. What is Muslim womens view on the veil?
a. It is an obstacle of their freedom.
b. It is to protect their modesty and privacy.
c. It is a fashion trend among them.

a. arouse social conflict among social communities.
b. maintain solidarity among social communities.
c. provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious communities
d. teach students social awareness.
e. make Muslim women loose their identity.
9. What does the writer suggest?
a. Schools should not be tolerant to any freedom of religious expression.
b. Students should know various social groups among the society.
c. The government should ban Muslims headscarf because it may arouse conflicts.
d. Muslims headscarf as a part of school or office uniforms should not be banned.
e. Schools are allowed to ban Muslim headscarf because it may arouse many problems.
10. Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing.. (paragraph 5)

with her at once. He asked her to marry him. The woman agreed to marry Sahala, but in one condition: he
had to keep the secret that she was once a fish. Sahala promised her that he would not tell anyone about it.
They were happily married and had two daughters. Every morning Sahala went out fishing. His
daughters would bring him his lunch. One day, however, instead of bringing the food to their father, the two
girls ate it.
When Sahala knew what they had done with the meal, he got very angry. He shouted at them saying,
You behaved exactly like the daughters of a fish.
The girls did not understand what their father meant. They went home and asked their mother about
it. Their mother was very annoyed. Although Sahala apologized to her later, she would not forgive him for
breaking his promise.

From that moment on, Sahala took a lesson that he should not have broken his own promise. Sahala
was so grief-striker that he decided to wander for the rest of his life.

Once upon a time there were two sisters. One of them was rich but had no children, while the other
was a poor widow who had five children.
One day, the poor widow no longer had enough food to satisfy herself and her children. In her need,
therefore, she went to her sister and said, My children and I are suffering the greatest hunger. You are my
beloved sister and you are rich. Please give a mouthful of bread.
The very rich sister was too stingy to give some food to her sister and said, I myself have nothing in
the house, and she drove away her sister with harsh words.
After some time, the husband of the rich sister came home and was just going to cut himself a piece
of bread. When he made the first cut into the loaf, out flowed red blood.
When the maid saw that, she was very terrified and told him what his wife had done to the poor
widow. After hearing the maids story, the husband hurried away to help the poor widow and her children.
But when he entered the widows room, he found her praying. She had her two youngest children in her arms
and the three eldest were lying dead. He offered her food, but she refused it and answered, We no longer
have a desire for earthly food. God has already satisfied the hunger of the three of us, and He will listen to
our supplications likewise.
After she uttered these words, the two little ones drew their last breath. Five second later, the poor
widow sank down and died.
