EXAMPLE FOR BOOKS REPORT.
Title, author

The Adventures of tom sawyer is a novel by Samuel Clemens using the pen
name, Mark Twain. He is considered one of America’s greatest humorists and writers.

Setting

The novel is set on the banks of Mississippi River, a small 19 th century town and
its suburbs. Since the book is a fictionalized portrayal of Mark Twain’s own experience ,
it lends a sense of historical accuracy. The setting, the character and the experience are
recreations of a world Mark Twain knew well.

Main character

The story revolves around the protagonist, Tom Sawyer, who lived with his
brother, Sid, and his aunt, Aunt Polly. Every day is a new adventure, or rather,
misadventure for Tom and his best friend, Huckleberry Finn, an orphan.

Story

In one of their escapades, Tom and Huck run away to Jackson’s Island and live
as a ‘pirates’. When they become homesick, they return home and are well-received by
their family and friends. In other adventure, Tom and Huck witness a murder, get lost in
a cave and finally find treasure. The friendship between Tom and his friend, especially
Huck, is one of the main themes of the novel.

Comments

The plot is interesting. The characters are vividly portrayed and appear like
characters in real life. The story is narrated in simple, straightforward language.

Title : Decline in the English language performance
Date: 28 August 2010
This report is based in a survey carried out by the Literary Society of SM Sains
Sabah on the decline in the English Language performance in the pass years 2002,
2003, 2004 examination. It is focuses on the percentage on the performance of the
students in English language as well as the causes.
The pattern on the bar chart shows that, the student who gets A in the
examination in the year of 2002 and 2003 is decreasing from the 20 to 10 and remain
constant in the years 2004. Moreover, at years of 2002, the students score B initially 30,
decrease to 20 at the year of 2003 and remain constant in the year of 2004. The slope
of pattern is identical to the pattern of student who get grade A. On the hand, the
number of students who score grade C is increasing from the years of 2002, 2003 and
2004 that is 60, to 70 and lastly 80. This pattern of increasment is known as directly
proportional. To the number of students that fail in English language subject at the years
2002, are 40, in 2003 the value is constant, 40 but in the year 2004 the constant value
decrease to 20.
The main cause for the decline of the performance of students is, according to
our policy of education the English paper is not a compulsory paper to pass. This
contributes 43% that is the highest reasons. Followed, at 22% the reason is lack of
English reading materials. This reason is detected to the student that lives in the interior
part that not having a complete education facilities. Thirdly, shortages of trained English
teacher contribute to 20% of this reason. The English trainer is sufficient enough but,
they do not want to be posted to the interior school. Lastly, family background
contributes 15% to the reason. The families in the interior or the parents do not have

7
proper education, hence they cannot speak English well, in their family or teaching their
children.
To sum up, this entire problem is specified to students who lived in the interior
compare to the students in the urban area. These create the negative space of
education between the interior and urban area. Hence, education equilibrium is not
attained. Ministry of education and teacher need to take action to counter this problem.

7.0 REFLECTION

Thanks again to al-mighty God for his Guidance for me to complete my short

must be finished. After receiving this task, it is so many questions that knock my head. I
became confuse.
Even though at the eleventh hour submitting my short coursework but I work

coursework given, I realized it is my own responsibility as a student to complete my
coursework. This coursework teach me valuable experience that cannot be bought by
money. Time is valuable; it came and passes very quickly. I impossible to brought time
back that had been wasted.
Moreover it is difficult to find the relevant materials that I want because it so
many that came out. I try and try again using different internet browser but the result is
the same. But I said “don’t lose heart, be patient”.
Then, I continue my surf and finally I got what I want to find. Thankful to God.
After I got, the relevant material from the internet, I commence to the library to find
another resources.
My language is words of one syllable. It is simple but I admit it will have a lot
of grammatical mistake. I still in the process of brush up my English language grammar.
