ABSTRACT
Background: The acute coronary syndrome is a condition when the blood flow to
the hearth is suddenly decrease. Acute coronary syndrome is still a serious health
problem. It is the most cause of death in the world.
Objective: To determine the correlation between central obesity and acute coronary
syndrome in Rumah Sakit Umum Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat in 2018.
Method: The research was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional
approach. This study uses non probability sampling, it was a purposive sampling
with the number of samples is 34 patients.
Result: From 34 patients who had been treated in the ICCU there are 9 (26,5%)
with obesity. Patients who had been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome is 20
(58,8%), while the patients who had been not diagnosed with acute coronary
syndrome is 14 (41,2%).
Conclusion: There was not a significant correlation between central obesity and
acute coronary syndrome. Chi square test value is 0,250 (p>0,005). It was due to
the number of other risk factors that cause the acute coronary syndrome that can not
be changed such as heredity or genetics, age and gender.
