SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE

Fungsi Simple Future Tense

Modals (helping verb) juga dipakai untuk menunjukkan semua kegiatan kita pada waktu yang
akan datang atau suatu rencana yang hendak kita lakukan, dalam hal ini memakai helping verb will.
Namanya adalah Simple Future Tense.

Contoh:

- I shall go to Jakarta tomorrow. (Saya akan pergi ke Jakarta besok)

- Mom will buy another house next year. (Ibu akan membeli rumah lagi tahun depan)
- Tom will meet you next week. (Tom akan menemuimu minggu depan)

Karena menunjukkan waktu yang akan datang, maka keterangan waktu yang digunakan adalah semua
keterangan waktu yang menunjukkan arti “nanti” atau yang akan datang.

- Tomorrow = besok (tomorrow morning/afternoon/evening/night)

- The day after tomorrow = dua hari lagi
- Next ... (next week/month/year/lebaran/spring/summer)
- This ... (this afternoon/evening/week/year)
- Soon = segera
- Tonight = nanti malam

Pola Simple Future Tense

Simple future tense menggunakan helping verb menggunakan kelompok modal: will and shall.
Keduanya berarti akan. Will dapat dipadankan dengan semua subjek, sedangkan shall dipakai oleh
subjek I dan we. Karena modals auxiliary selalu diikuti oleh verb dasar, maka beginilah pola simple
future tense.

S + shall/will + Verb dasar

Latihan 1

Isilah dengan will atau shall.

Catatan :

- Helping verb “will dan shall” sering disingkat dengan ‘ll; I’ll, we’ll, she’ll, he’ll, they’ll, dan
seterusnya.

Ubahlah ke dalam bentuk future (will/shall).

Will Diganti dengan “Am/Is/Are Going to”

Selain memakai pola dengan helping verb will/shall, simple future tense bisa dibentuk dengan pola
lain seperti di bawah ini. Biasanya pola ini diartikan sebagai sebuah rencana.

Contoh:

- I shall/will stop smoking. = I am going to stop smoking.

- You will get a reward. = You are going to get a reward.
- She will visit her uncle. = She is going to visit he uncle.

Catatan:

“I will be 21” Tidak bisa menjadi “I am going to be 21 this Sunday”, karena umur bukanlah sesuatu
yang direncakan.

Tulis kalimat berikut ke dalam bentuk “to be going to”.

Membuat Kalimat Negatif dan Kalimat Tanya

Tentukan helping verb-nya dan tambahkan NOT pada helping verb.

Contoh:

- I shall not go to Jakarta tomorrow.

- Mom will not buy another house next year.
- Tom will not meet you next week.

Kalimat tanya dibentuk dengan menggeser helping verb ke depan kalimat.

Contoh:

- Shall I go to Jakarta tomorrow?

- Will mom buy another house next year?
- Will Tom meet you next week?

WH Questions

WH questions adalah bentuk kalimat tanya yang memerlukan informasi sebagai jawaban.

- What = apa (What will you do? Nothing)

- Who = siapa (Who will pick you up? Nobody)
- Whom = siapa (Whom will you like? Ana)
- Where = ke / di mana (Where will you go? School)
- Why = mengapa (Why will you take chemistry? Because it is interesting)
- When = kapan (When will you call me? Later)
- How = bagaimana, dengan cara apa
Contoh: How will you go? By bike.
- How much = berapa banyak (yang tidak bisa dihitung, seperti mentega, gula, air, uang)
Contoh: How much will it cost me? Rp 2.000,-.
- How many = berapa banyak (yang bisa dihitung, seperti friends, pencils, teachers)
Contoh: How many buds will bloom? 5.

Catatan:

How banyak macamnya, karena how bisa disambung dengan kata lain, seperti how small (seberapa
kecil), how good (seberapa bagus), how tall (seberapa tinggi).
