ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND : Hypertension is a common medical disease occurring in about
one third of young adults and almost two thirds of individuals over the age of 60.
Hypertension is a chronic condition with increase blood pressure more than a
normal pressure, a systolic pressure greater than equal to 140 mmHg and a
diastolic pressure greater than equal to 90 mmHg. Hypertension treatment can be
performed with pharmacological treatment, non pharmacological treatment, and
complementary. One of complementary treatments is cupping theraphy.
OBJECTIVE: To find out the influence of of cupping therapy to a decrease in
blood pressure for hypertension patient at Hamdalah clinic Makassar.
METHODS : The design of this research was pre experimental study with One-
Group Pretest-Postest Design. The research was conducted by provide a pre test
(measure of blood pressure before intervention) then did intervention (cupping
therapy) and post test (measure of blood pressure after intervention) by using 89
samples. Sampling is done by Purposive Sampling technique. Data were tested by
using the Wilcoxon and Paired T test.
RESULTS :. The result of statistical test was the decreased blood pressure
between mean value in systole pressure (16,1 mmHg) and diastole pressure (5,6
mmHg). Statistical test with using Wilcoxon test of diastole pressure andan Paired
T test of diastole pressure showed the value = 0,000 (p > 0,05) which means that
there was a significant effect of cupping therapy to decreased blood pressure in
hypertension patient at Hamdalah clinic Makassar.
CONCLUSION : There was a significant effect of cupping therapy to decreased
blood pressure in hypertension patient at Hamdalah clinic Makassar.
