A. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran ini peserta didik diharapkan mampu:
 Mengidentifikasi makna, fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan pada teks deskriptif
sederhana lisan dan tulis tentang tempat wisata dan bangunan bersejarah sesuai dengan
penggunaan.
 Membedakan makna, fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaan dari berbagai teks
deskriptif terkait tempat wisata dan bangunan bersejarah terkenal, pendek, dan sederhana, sesuai
dengan konteks penggunaannya.
 Menjelaskan isi deskripsi lisan dan tulis tentang tempat wisata dan bangunan bersejarah dengan
memperhatikan tujuan komunikasi, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks deskriptif sesuai
konteks penggunaan.
 Mendeskripsikan secara lisan tempat wisata atau bangunan bersejarah dengan memperhatikan

 Kegiatan Inti
 Siswa dibagi dalam dua kelompok dan menyimak instruksi cara melakukan
aktivitas yang diberikan guru.
 Siswa menjawab pertanyaan, “To whom I’ll show the word?”,
 “What will your representative in the front do?”, “What will you do?”, “Who will
the winner be?”.
 Siswa mencoba melakukan aktivitas draw and guess satu kata saja. Setelah siswa
mengerti dan dapat melakukan aktivitas, maka aktivitas adu cepat dimulai.
 Kata yang ditebak: cave, waterfalls, head scarf, Hurricane, thunder, rainbow,
theater, museum, boat, wax, downtown, helicopter.
 Siswa mencari kata-kata bahasa Inggris yang padanannya dalam bahasa Indonesia
sudah diberikan. Siswa memperhatikan bahwa jumlah garis bawah menunjukkan
jumlah huruf kata-kata yang dicari. Huruf yang disediakan (2 huruf ) diberikan
sebagai bantuan.
 Siswa mencocokkan hasil pekerjaan sendiri dengan temannya.
 Siswa menyimak dan menirukan kosakata baru dengan pelafalan dan intonasi yang
benar setelah guru.
 Siswa melakukan drilling dengan kosakata baru.
 Siswa diarahkan membaca teks Visiting Niagara Waterfalls.
 Siswa mengerjakan latihan Task 1.

 Siswa mencari contoh kalimat passive dalam teks Visiting Niagara Waterfalls
kemudian mengubah bentuknya menjadi active.

 Peserta didik dibantu guru menyimpulkan hasil pembelajaran.

Pertemuan Ketiga (3 x 45 menit)

 Siswa dibagi menjadi kelompok besar 10-12 orang.
 Siswa duduk melingkar sesuai dengan kelompoknya masing-masing.
 Siswa mendapatkan nomor urut sesuai dengan urutan duduk (1-12).
 Siswa nomor urut 1 mendapatkan sebuah kertas dan pensil.
 Siswa nomor urut 1 diberi waktu untuk memikirkan satu tempat wisata yang
menarik. Kemudian dia menuliskan satu kalimat saja sebagai topic sentence
(kalimat topik).
 Ketika guru mengucapkan kata stop, siswa harus berhenti menulis dan memberikan
kertas tersebut kepada teman yang ada disamping kanannya (nomor urut 2).
 Siswa melakukan kegiatan tersebut sampai kertasnya kembali ke nomor urut satu.
 Salah satu siswa membacakan hasil tulisan kelompoknya.
 Siswa dan guru membahas hasil ceritanya.
 Siswa secara individu membuat satu teks deskriptif tentang tempat pariwisata yang
menarik.

Draw and Guess


Your teacher will divide the class into two big groups and show you how to play Draw and Guess.

Read the text about Visiting Niagara Falls. After you read it, scan the text quickly to find the English

your friends’.

Visiting Niagara Waterfalls

Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that cross the international border
between the Canadian province of Ontario and the USA’s state of New York. They form the
southern end of the Niagara Gorge. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe
Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie on the Canadian side
and the American Falls on the American side. They are separated by Goat Island. The smaller
Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by
Luna Island. There are various attractions that people can enjoy in Niagara Falls, six of them are
described here.
The first to enjoy in Niagara Falls is Cave of the Winds. This attraction helps people get
closer to the falls and go face-to-face with the pounding waters of the Falls. People can get soaked
on the Hurricane Deck where they are just feet from the thundering waters. Waterproof clothing
and sandals are provided. A trip at night when the Falls are illuminated in a rainbow of color is
really amazing.
The second charm is Maid of the Mist Boat Tour. It is a world-famous scenic boat tour of
the American and Canadian Falls for about a half-hour ride. People may access the tour via the
Observation Tower elevator at Prospect Point in the state park. The boat operates mid-May until
late October.
The next to visit in Niagara Falls is Niagara Adventure Theater. Here tourists may enjoy
the most powerful and involving film experience that brings reality to life on a 45 foot screen.
Audience members are given the priviledge to discover the thundering Falls from a completely
new and exhilarating perspective, and plunge over them. The theater shows hourly and free multi-
language headsets are made available.
Niagara Science Museum is another place to visit. It is a sanctuary for the preservation
and appreciation of old science instruments and philosophical apparatus.
The fifth point of interest is Niagara’s Wax Museum of History. Here, life-size wax
figures portraying dramatic history of Niagara Falls are presented to guests. They can see Fort
Niagara Scene, Indian Village, old store, blacksmith and barber shop scenes and how electricity is
made. Wax figures of Julia Roberts, Princess Diana and many more are displayed here, too.
Finally, people can also enjoy Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours above and around the
American and Canadian Falls. The tours start from downtown, next to the entrance to the Rainbow
Bridge, and open from 9am to dusk when weather permits. The tours operate every day from
second weekend in May until October 31st.
The Niagara Falls are renowned both for their beauty and as a valuable source of
hydroelectric power. Managing the balance between recreational, commercial, and industrial uses
has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century.

Verbs are also said to be either active (The executive committee approved the new policy) or
passive (The new policy was approved by the executive committee) in voice. In the active voice,
the subject and verb relationship is straightforward: the subject is a be-er or a do-er and the verb
moves the sentence along. In the passive voice, the subject of the sentence is neither a do-er or a
be-er, but is acted upon by some other agent or by something unnamed (The new policy was
approved).

New Hotel
There is a new hotel in my city. It is a four star hotel. It is located downtown. The hotel is not very
big but the architecture is very beautiful. It looks like a classic castle in Europe. According to the
brochure, it has 100 rooms, a fancy restaurant, complete sports facilities including a swimming pool,
tennis court, gym and sauna, there are also a coffee shop and a karaoke room.
The picture of the rooms in the brochure are very nice. The rooms look very comfortable. It

Lake Toba
Lake Toba is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. It is on the attitude of 800 meters above the sea
level, 100 kilometers long, and 30 kilometers wide. It is situated in the caldera of the huge. Toba volcano
which erupted approximately 75.000 years ago.
The eruption was one of the most massive eruptions ever on earth. Many scientists believe that this
eruption was triggered in the last ice age. The eruption probably lasted two weeks until the volcano
collapsed. Then it formed a caldera which is now Lake Toba. The bottom of the volcano rose and formed
the island of Samosir.
