Dewasa ini semakin banyak orang menyadari bahwa dunia ini bergerak ke arah masa
kritis dan apakah kita akan bertahan hidup bergantung pada bagaimana kita menghadapi
krisis tersebut. Salah satu masalah terbesarnya adalah persediaan pangan dunia dalam
kaitannya dengan pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk. Sejauh yang bisa kita perkirakan,
penduduk dunia hampir stabil pada kisaran kurang dari 10 juta selama sekitar satu juta tahun.
Peningkatannya diawali dengan perkembangan pertanian delapan sampai sepuluh ribu tahun
yang lalu. Setelah tahun 1700-an, ketika industrialisasi dimulai, penduduk bertambah sekitar
dua persen setiap tahunnya. Saat ini ada sekitar empat miliar jiwa penduduk dunia dan, jika
tidak ada bencana-bencana besar, jumlah itu akan mencapai enam miliar pada tahun 2000.
Seratus tahun kemudian, secara teori, jumlah tersebut akan menjadi 16 miliar. Bahkan
sekarangpun tidak ada pangan yang mencukupi bagi setiap orang dan, kecuali jika terjadi
perubahan-perubahan besar, situasinya akan dengan cepat menjadi kian memburuk.
The Translation Result
Today, there are many people realize that the world is moving into a critical times and
whether we could survive depends on how we face with that crisis. One of the biggest
problems is the world food supply which related to population growth. As far as we could
estimate, the world's population has almost stabilized at less than 10 million for about one
million years. Its increase begins with the development of agriculture on eight to ten thousand
years ago. After the 1700s, when industrialization began, the population increased by about
two percent each year. This time, there are currently about four billion people in the world
and, if there were no massive disasters, that number would reach six billion by the year 2000.
One hundred years later, theoretically, that number would be 16 billion. Even now there is
not enough food for everyone, and unless massive changes occur, the situation will quickly
getting worse.
