ASUMSI-ASUMSI HERMENEUTIKA
Manusia adalah Self-Interpreting Being
To Know itu berhubungan erat dengan “To Be”

INTERPRETASI TEKS
Three Hermeneutical Attitudes
• Hermeneutics of Suspicion
• Hermeneutics of Apology
• Hermeneutics of Recovery
Hermeneutics of Suspiciouss
• Some belief, statement or action involves the
assertion of x.
• Since we believe that x is false, we must explain
that belief, statement or action in a fashion that
recognizes it as false.
• In short, we “suspect” that the belief, statement
or action is prompted or controlled by a hidden
motivation.
Hermeneutics of Apology
• Some belief, statement or action involves the
assertion of x.
• Since we believe that x is true, we must explain
that belief, statement or action in some fashion
that will demonstrate that x is true.
• In other words, we seek to construct an apology
for the truth that we think underlies the belief,
statement or action.
Hermeneutics of Recovery
• Some belief, statement or action involves the
assertion of x.
• Since we do not know whether x is true or false,
we must explain that belief, statement or action
in some fashion that neither assumes nor denies
the truth of x.
• In other words, we seek to “recover” the
tradition’s own understanding by restating that
belief, statement or action in our own terms.
