 Cerpen
Tema

Tema adalah gagasan yang menjalin struktur isi cerita. Tema suatu
cerita menyangkut segala persoalan, baik itu berupa masalah
kemanusiaan, kekuasaan, kasih sayang, kecemburuan, dan sebagainya.
Untuk mengetahui tema suatu cerita, diperlukan apresiasi menyeluruh
terhadap berbagai unsur karangan itu.

Tema jarang dituliskan secara tersurat oleh pengarangnya. Untuk dapat

merumuskan tema, kita harus terlebih dahulu mengenali rangkaian
peristiwa yang membentuk alur cerita dalam cerpen itu.
Amanat
Amanat merupakan ajaran atau pesan yang
hendak disampaikan pengarang. Amanat dalam
cerpen umumnya bersifat tersirat; disembunyikan
pengarangnya di balik peristiwa-peristiwa yang
membentuk isi cerita. Kehadiran amanat, pada
umumnya tidak bisa lepas dari tema cerita. Misalnya,
apabila tema cerita itu tentang perjuangan
kemerdekaan, amanat cerita itu pun tidak jauh dari
pentingnya mempertahankan kemerdekaan.
 Penokohan
Penokohan merupakan cara pengarang menggambarkan dan
mengembangkan karakter tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita. Berikut
cara-cara penggambaran karakteristik tokoh.

Teknik analitik langsung

Alam termasuk siswa yang paling rajin di antara teman-

01 temannya. Ia pun tidak merasa sombong walaupun berkali-
kali dia mendapat juara bela diri. Sifatnya itulah yang
menyebabkan ia banyak disenangi teman-temannya.
 Penggambaran fisik dan perilaku tokoh

Seperti sedang berkampanye, orang-orang desa itu serempak

berteriak-teriak! Mereka menyuruh camat agar secepatnya
keluar kantor. Tak lupa mereka mengacung-acungkan
02 tangannya, walaupun dengan perasaan yang masih juga ragu-
ragu. Malah ada di antara mereka sibuk sendiri menyeragamkan
acungan tangannya, agar tidak kelihatan berbeda dengan orang
lain. Sudah barang tentu, suasana di sekitar kecamatan menjadi
riuh. Bukan saja oleh demonstran-demonstran dari desa itu, tapi
juga oleh orang-orang yang kebetulan lewat dan ada di sana

yang renta tubuhnya, masih berlapang dada menerima
kepulangannya.

Penggambaran oleh tokoh lain

Ia paling pandai bercerita, menyanyi, dan menari. Tak

jarang ia bertandang ke rumah sambil membawa aneka
06 brosur barang-barang promosi. Yang menjengkelkan saya,
seluruh keluargaku jadi menaruh perhatian kepadanya.
Alur dan Latar
Alur merupakan pola Latar atau setting meliputi tempat,
pengembangan cerita yang terbentuk waktu, dan budaya yang digunakan dalam
oleh hubungan sebab akibat ataupun suatu cerita. Latar dalam suatu cerita bisa
bersifat kronologis. Pola bersifat faktual atau bisa pula yang
pengembangan cerita suatu cerpen imajinatif. Latar berfungsi untuk
beragam. Pola-pola pengembangan memperkuat atau mempertegas
cerita harus menarik, mudah dipahami, keyakinan pembaca terhadap jalannya
dan logis. Jalan cerita suatu cerpen suatu cerita. Dengan demikian, apabila
kadang-kadang berbelit-belit dan penuh pembaca sudah menerima latar itu
kejutan, juga kadang-kadang sebagai sesuatu yang benar adanya, maka
sederhana. cenderung dia pun akan lebih siap dalam
menerima pelaku ataupun kejadian-
kejadian yang berada dalam latar itu.
Gaya Bahasa
Dalam cerita, penggunaan bahasa berfungsi untuk menciptakan
suatu nada atau suasana persuasif serta merumuskan dialog yang
mampu memperlihatkan hubungan dan interaksi antara sesama
tokoh. Kemampuan sang penulis mempergunakan bahasa secara
cermat dapat menjelmakan suatu suasana yang berterus terang atau
satiris, simpatik atau menjengkelkan, objektif atau emosional. Bahasa
dapat menimbulkan suasana yang tepat untuk adegan yang seram,
adegan romantis, ataupun peperangan, keputusan, maupun harapan.

Bahasa dapat pula digunakan pengarang untuk menandai

karakter seseorang tokoh. Karakter jahat dan bijak dapat
digambarkan dengan jelas melalui kata-kata yang digunakannya.
Demikian pula dengan tokoh anakanak dan dewasa, dapat pula
dicerminkan dari kosakata ataupun struktur kalimat yang digunakan
oleh tokoh-tokoh yang bersangkutan.
