ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis is an infected disease cause by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that have
international intention. In 1992, World Health Organization (WHO) stated that tuberculosis as
Global Emergency. It is caused by 1 over 3 people in this world was infected by Tuberculosis. In
2004, a report from WHO stated that 8,8 million Tuberculosis new cases in 2002 which is 3,9
million cases are positive M. Tuberculosis. The mortality rate by Tuberculosis is 8000 per day
and 2-3 million per year. The biggest mortality rate cause by Tuberculosis infection is 625.000
cases at Southeast Asia. This research is among the head of family in Kelurahan Tanjung Rejo,
Medan. This is a descriptive and cross sectional research. The number of sample is 100 heads of
family, taken by random sampling method by giving questionnaire. The research objective is to
know the level of knowledge towards Tuberculosis among the head of family in order to prevent
the transmission of Tuberculosis. Overall the heads of family knowledge of Tuberculosis is in
medium level with 72%. There are 26% of them in high level and 2% in lower level.
