A. TENSES

1. Simple Present

Simple present diguanakan ketika ingin membicarakan :

a. Habits (Kebiasaan).

Contoh : He takes a bath every day.

-Kalimat ini menjelaskan kebiasaan yang dilakukan setiap

hari

b. Facts (Fakta)

Contoh : Birds fly.

- Kalimat ini menjelaskan fakta bahwa burung terbang

Terdapat 2 cara menggunakan Simple Present, yaitu

1. Menggunakan To Be

 To be dalam simple present adalah am, is dan are.

 To be digunakan ketika suatu kalimat tidak memiliki verb.

Subject To Be

I Am

You Are

We Are

They Are

She Is

He Is
It Is

Contoh :

She is beautiful. (positive)

She is not beautiful. (negative)

 Pada contoh di atas, ”She” adalah noun dan

“beautiful” adalah adjective. Karena tidak ada verb

pada kalamat tersebut, maka digunakan to be.

Latihan 1

Lengkapai kalimat di bawah ini dengan to be (am, is, atau are).

1. She ..is... tired. (example)

2. This book .......... heavy.

3. I .......... a teacher. My brother ............ a doctor.

4. My father and I .......... good football player.

5. This weather ............. bad today.

6. Look! Those picture ........ so beautiful.

7. They rooms ............ very dirty.

8. The shops .......... not open today.

9. Your mother ........... at the kitchen.

10. Mathematics .............. not difficult lesson.

2. Menggunakan Verb
 Dalam present tense, to be tidak digunakan ketika

terdapat verb 1 dalam kalimat.

 Contoh Verb 1 : run, sing, sleep, drink, eat, dan lain-lain.

 Dalam present tense, terdapat aturan dalam penggunaan

verb 1 untuk setiap subject.

She Verb 1 +s/es

He Verb 1 +s/es

It Verb 1 +s/es

 Untuk subject “She,He,It” atau benda tunggal, verb 1

harus ditambah akhiran s/es.

 Untuk subject “I, You, We, They” atau benda jamak,

verb 1 tidak harus ditambah akhiran s/es.

 Verb ditambah akhiran – es saat kata tersebut

berakhiran – o, - y, -s, - z, -ch, -sh, dan –x.


Latihan 2

1. My Sister (drink/drinks) milk with her breakfast.

2. I (take/takes) a bath every day.

3. My friends and I (go/goes) school by car.


4. They (study/studies) English every Sunday.

5. She (wash/washes) her car in the afternoon.

6. My mother and father (eat/eats) breakfast at 7 a.m.

7. A student (buy/buys) a lot of books at the beginning of each

term.

8. Class (began/begans) at 08.00 every day.

9. Mr. John( teach/teaches) Chinese at the university.

10. Laura (leave/leaves) her office every night and

(take/takes) on a bus to go home.

Adjective dan Noun

a. Adjective (Kata Sifat)

 Adjective adalah kata yang menjelaskan atau

menggambarkan noun.

Contoh : He is handsomel. (Kata sifat handsome ini

menggambarkan noun He)

 Possessive Adjective (my, your, his, her, its, our, your,

their)

Daftar akhiran kata yang biasa membentuk adjective

1. Noun + y : Anger – Angry, Wealth – Wealthy

2. Noun + ful : Beauty – Beautiful

3. Noun + al : Nature – Natural

4. Noun + ous : Danger – Dangerous


5. Noun + less : Hope – Hopeless

6. Verb + able : Understand – Understandable

7. Verb + ive : Describe – Descriptive

b. Noun (Kata Benda)

 Noun adalah kata yang mengidentifikasikan orang, benda,

hewan, tempat.

 Semua Subject dalam bahasa Inggris harus berupa noun.

Daftar akhiran kata yang biasa membetuk noun

1. er : Player

2. ice : Justice

3. ness : Happiness

4. sion : Division

5. ance : Finance

6. ment : Goverment

7. hood : Neighborhood

8. dom : freedom

9. cy : Hesitancy

10. ist : florist

12. ship : Friendship

Tentukan mana Noun dan Adjective pada kalimat di bawah.

2. Simple Past

 Simple past digunakan untuk menjelaskan kejadian yang

terjadi di masa lampau.

 Yang dimaksud masa lampau adalah kemarin, minggu lalu,

bulan lalu, bahkan satu menit yang lalu.

Keterangan waktu dalam simple past

......yesterday, Last ........, ........ ago, ....in....

Terdapat 2 cara menggunakan Simple Past yaitu

1. Menggunakan to be

 To be dalam simple present adalah was,were.

 To be digunakan ketika suatu kalimat tidak memiliki verb.

Artinya hanya memiliki adjective atau noun.

You Were
We Were

They Were

She Was

He Was

It Was
Latihan 4

Letakkan to be am/is/are (present) atau was/were (past)

pada kalimat di bawah ini.

1. I feel fine this morning, but I ............. very tired last

1. Menyapa para hadirin

Example :

3. Mengungkapkan rasa syukur

Example :

First of all ,I would like to thank to Allah the Almighty, Who has given us Mercy

and Blessing, so we can meet together in this blessing place. And also I don't

forget to deliver peace and salutation to our prophet Muhammad SAW, Who has

brought us from the darkness to the brightness, so we are always in the right

way.

4. Mengungkapkan rasa terima kasih

Example :

I don’t forget to say thank to the MC (Master of Ceremony) who has given me

time to speech in front of you all.

5. Menuju pokok pidato

Example :

Standing in front of you all, i would like to deliver my speech under the tittle

“THE IMPORTANCE OF MASTERING ENGLISH”

7. Pokok pidato

Example :
Ladies and Gentlemen,

English is an international Language. Because this language is very universal and

use for comunicate among peolple around the world. ......../

8. Akhir pidato (mengungkapkan maaf dan terima kasih)

Example :

I think that’s all my speech. The wrong utterances are caused by limitation of

my ability and the right one is merely from Allah SWT. So, I beg your pardon,

finally I say.

STORY TELLING

STORYTELLING

Menurut Echols storytelling terdiri atas dua kata yaitu story berarti

cerita dan telling berarti penceritaan. Penggabungan dua kata storytelling

berarti penceritaan cerita atau menceritakan cerita.

Storytelling juga dapat diartikan sebagai usaha yang dilakukan oleh

pendongeng dalam menyampaikan isi perasaan, buah pikiran atau sebuah

cerita.

Langkah-Langkah Persiapan Story Telling

1. Mempelajari cerita yang akan disampaikan

2. Menggambarkan adegan cerita dalam ingatan

3. Berlatih di depan kaca

4. Hal pertama yang penting dalam latihan adalah memahami alur cerita.

Setelah itu baru difokuskan pada cara penyampaian.

5. Gunakan pengulangan/repetisi

6. Gunakan variasi

7. Gunakan gerakan tubuh (gesture)

8. Beri perhatian khusus pada bagian awal dan akhir cerita

9. Memotret karakter/tokoh

10. Menyiapkan diri


Example :

THE LONELY LANDY STORY

One day, there was a porcupine named Landy. He was lonely. No one

wanted to play with him, because they were afraid of his spikes.

“ Dear Landy. We don’t want to play with you because your spikes are too

sharp. We don’t want you to hurt us,”said Cici the rabbit one day.

“ Cici is right, Landy. It is not because you are bad or rude to us, no, Landy.

Just because of your spikes. They will stab us if we are close to you,”. Said

Tito the rooster.

Landy felt lonely. Landy spent most of the time daydreaming at the river

bank, “ I would be happy if there were no spikes on my body.”

Suddenly, kuku the turtle appeared from the river. He came to Landy and

said, “ Landy, what are you thinking of?”

Oh nothing,” Landy replied

“ don’t lie to me. Landy! Who knows I can help you,” said Kuku wisely. Then

he sat beside Landy. He was not afraid of Landy spikes.

Shortly, Landy told his problem. Kuku nodded his head. He said “ por you.

But isn’t your fault. I know, your spikes are very useful and helpful for you.

They will realize it someday. Trust me!”

“Thanks. Kuku. You are my best friend”

One day Koko the frog held his bhirthday party. He invited all his friend,

including Landy. But he decide not to come. He didn’t want to mees up the

perty.

“ I will come with you andy. I’ll tell everyone that you’re harmless” said

Kuku. Finally Landy attented the perty. Everyone enjoyed it.

Suddenly Tito screamed, “ help….help….!the evl wolf is coming. Save

yoursel!f,” then everyone saved their lives,xcepy Kuku and Landy. Kuku
pulled his head and his leg into his shell. And Landy rolled his body into a

ball.

Unintentionally, they evil wolf thouced Landy. Of course, the spike pricked

him. He screamed, “ouch!”. Since his foot was bleeding, he didn’t chese

Landy’s.

“horray….horray…! long live Landy! He savd our lives,” said Cici and her

friend. They thanked im from then on. Landy was not lonely anymore
