ABSTRACT
Marine phenomena that greatly affected to the efficiency and safety for marine activities is ocean waves.
One of the factors affecting ocean waves is the monsoon. The factor that affecting to the ocean wave is
monsun. The change of season caused a change of direction and wind speed so that affected to the wave
height of sea in Bengkulu waters. This study using the average monthly data in the form of sea wave height
data (significant wave height) from the windwave-05 model from BMKG.
The wind speed data conducted from NCEP-Reanalysis data, the data is processed by a computer program
run with Matlab software. The result of this research stated that the wave height of sea in Bengkulu waters
had spatially and temporally variety. The sea wave height in the waters of Bengkulu is not only influenced
by the monsun wind but there are other factors that influence on it. This study temporally showed that the
maximum sea wave height occurs in the transition season I and II. The sea wave height during the transition
season I was 2.5 m with wind speed of 0.62 m / s (May 2016) and at 2.5 m with wind speed of 0.62 m / s
(April 2017). Sea wave height during transitional season II of 2.5 m with wind speed of 2.73 m / s (October
2016) and at 2.5 m with wind speed 3.98 m / s (September 2017). Spatially high sea waves in the three
regions of North, Central and South Bengkulu are showed the weak monsun influence respectively -0.12
(North), -0.15 (Middle) and -0.13 (South). In the transition season I and II the wave height of the sea is not
affected by the monsun winds but there is another suspected factor that is the propagation of Kelvin waves
in the waters of Bengkulu.
