ABSTRACT
A problem that often occurs in tobacco processing plant processing area is less
concerned about worker safety and environmental conditions of work that are
dangerous. This research aims to analyze the factors which influence the behaviour of the
safety work, and involvement of workers reviewed through environmental factors,
management commitment, and worker confidence, then if there is a difference in
behavior safety in terms of age, old work, and type of work, as well as determining the
appropriate recommendations.
Kruskal Wallis test and Mann Whitney used to know of the difference in the
behavior of safety regarding age, old work, and type of work. Factors that affect the behavior
of worker involvement and safety tested by the method of Structural Equation Modelling
(SEM). The data used in the form of the results of a questionnaire distributed to 176 workers
in the tobacco processing plant processing area.
The results showed no difference in safety behaviors regarding age (p = 0,387) and
long work (p = 0.628), while there are significant differences regarding safety behavior of
this type of work (p = 0,044). The test results showed SEM hazardous environment positively
affect the trust of workers and management commitment. Influential management
commitment undoubtedly against the beliefs of the workers. The assurance of workers and
management commitment to positively impact safety behavior and involvement of workers
towards safety. Recommendations that can be given is handling a dangerous work
environment as well as management role against tobacco processing plant workers.
