Once-ler dan Lorax

Dahulu kala hiduplah seorang pemuda ambisius bernama Once-ler. Dia

selalu mencoba menjalankan suatu bisnis namun usahanya selalu gagal dan
akhirnya diasingkan oleh kelurganyadan diusir pergi.
“Pergi dari sini!” Usir kakaknya yang kurus
Once-ler pegi ke hutan, sesampainya di hutan ia terpukau melihat
pepohonan dengan daun bulu yang berwarna-warni.
“Wah, hutan ini sangat indah”
Sejenak Once-ler terlintas ide untuk membuat sebuah kain dari bulu daun
pohon- pohon itu.
Once-ler pun menebang satu pohon dan mengambil bulu-bulu pada
pohon yang ia tebang. Di saat dia sedang mencabuti tiap daun berbentuk bulu
itu, ada makhluk yang datang mendekatinya.
“Apakah kau yang menebang pohon” ujarnya dengan wajah kesal
“Siapa kamu?” tanya Once-ler
“Aku adalah Lorex, penjaga hutan dan pohon-pohon di sini” jawab
makhluk berkumis itu
“Bukan aku yang menebang pohon ini” elak Once-ler pada Lorax
“Jika bukan kau, lalu siapa lagi? Hanya ada kamu disini” Lorax tidak
terima
“Baiklah, memang aku yang menebang pohon ini. Lalu kenapa?” tanya
Once-ler tanpa rasa bersalah
Lorax semakin marah atas perbuatan Once-ler
“Kau tidak boleh menebang pohon yang ada disini ataupun di tempat lain.
Pohon adalah sumber kehidupan. Oksigen yang kita hirup semuanya berasal
dari pohon-pohon ini.” Lorax memarahi Once-ler
Namun Once-ler tidak menanggapi nasihat yang diberikan oleh Lorax
dan menganggapnya remeh.
“Ayolah aku hanya menebang 1 pohon, Lorax”
“Sesuatu perbuatan besar dimulai dari hal kecil” Lorex membalas
perkataan Once-ler. Karena kesal pada Once-ler, Lorax pun pergi meninggalkan
Once-ler.
 Setelah kepergian Lorax, Once-ler mulai mengerjakan rencananya. Ia
membuat sebuah kain yang sangat bagus. Once-ler pergi ke kota dan
menjualnya. Siapa sangka, kain tersebut banyak peminatnya dan terjual dengan
harga yang lumayan mahal. Keluarga Once-ler yang medengar kabar bahwa
Once-ler sukses dan kaya datang menghampirinya ke hutan.
“Anakku, kau akhirnya berhasil” Ibunya berseri-seri
“Tidak sia-sia aku mengusirmu” Kakaknya berujar bangga
“Cucuku, aku bangga padamu” Nenek Once-ler mengusap kepala
cucunya
“Bukannya aku sampah dimata kalian?” Tanya Oce-ler
“Tidak cucuku, kau emas keluarga ini” Bantah Neneknya
“Once-ler adikku, tebanglah semua pohon itu dan buatlah lebih banyak
kain” ujar kakaknya yang kurus
“Iya Once-ler, semakin banyak kau membuatnya semakin kaya dirimu
dan juga kita” ujar Ibunya
“Tidak bisa kak, jika aku menebang pohon-pohon itu lebih banyak nanti
penjaga hutan itu akan marah padaku” tolak Once-ler
“Adikku, tak usah takut kepadanya kami akan membereskan itu semua.”
ucap kakaknya yang lain
“benar cucuku sayang, lakukanlah apa kata kaka-kaka mu itu” nenek
Once-ler meyakinkannya
Akhirnya Once-ler mengikuti apa yang diinginkan keluarganya. Ia
menebang seluruh pohon yang ada di hutan dan dibantu oleh keluarganya yang
tamak. Lorex berusaha menghentikan usaha Once-ler yang menebang seluruh
pohon di hutan. Namun, Once-ler tetap melakukannya sampai seluruh pohon di
hutan habis ditebang olehnya.
“Once-ler, kau mengecewakanku. Kau telah melanggar perkataanmu
sendiri.” Lorex begitu kecewa dengan perbuatan Once-ler. Lorex meninggalkan
Once-ler danpergi ke langit.
Setelah kepergian Lorax, Once-ler tersadar dan ia merasa sangat bersalah
atas apa yang telah ia lakukan.
“Maafkan aku Lorax”
 Karena merasa bersalah, Once-ler mengurung dirinya di dalam gubuk
hingga bertahun-tahun samapi ia tua.
Once-ler tua teringat menyimpan benih di yang diberikan Lorex.
“Lorax aku akan membayar kesalahanku, semoga kau kembali”
Once-ler pun menanamnya dan berharap dapat membayar kesalahannya.
Berhari-hari dia merawat benih itu dan akhirnya tumbuh menjadi pohon.
Lorax datang dan tersenyum kepada Once-ler.
“Lorax! Kau kembali!” Once-ler berseru senang
Lorax hanya tersenyum menanggapi Once-ler
“Aku berjanji Lorax, aku tidak akan mengulangi perbuatanku” Once-ler
memeluk Lorax
Akhirnya Lorax menetap bersama Once-ler tua dan merawat hutan mulai
dari awal.

Once upon a time there lived an ambitious young man named Once-ler.
He always tried to run a business but his business always failed and eventually
was exiled by his family and was driven away.
"Go away from here!" Get rid of his thin brother
Once-ler went to the forest, when he got in the forest he was amazed to
see trees with colorful feather leaves.
"Wow, this forest is very beautiful"
Once-ler crossed the idea of making a cloth from the feathers of the
leaves of the trees.
Once-ler fells a tree and takes feathers on the tree it cuts. While he was
plucking each of the feathered leaves, a creature came to approach him.
"Are you the one cutting down the tree" he said with an annoyed face
"Who are you?" Once-ler asked
"I am Lorex, the guardian of the forest and the trees here," replied
the creature with the mustache
"I'm not the one who cut down this tree" Once-ler dodged at Lorax
"If not you, then who will? There's only you here "Lorax doesn't
accept
"Alright, I really cut down this tree. So what?" asked Once-ler
without guilt
Lorax is getting angry over Once-ler's actions
"You can't cut down trees that are here or elsewhere. Trees are the
source of life. The oxygen we breathe all come from these trees. " Lorax
scolded Once-erer
But Once-ler did not respond to the advice given by Lorax and
underestimated it.
"Come on, I only cut down one tree, Lorax"
"Something big works starts from small things" Lorex replies once-
ler. Because upset at Once-ler, Lorax left Once-ler.
 After Lorax's departure, Once-ler began working on his plan. He made a
very nice cloth. Once-ler goes to town and sells it. Who would have thought, the
fabric was much in demand and was sold at a pretty expensive price. The Once-
ler family who heard the news that Once-ler was successful and rich came to the
forest.
"My child, you finally succeeded" His mother beamed
"It's not in vain I kicked you out" His sister said proudly
"My grandson, I'm proud of you" Grandma Once-ler rubbed her
grandsonr's head
"Aren't I rubbish in your eyes?" Asked Oce-ler
"Not my grandson, you are this family's gold" Denied her
grandmother
"Once-ler my bother, cut down all the trees and make more cloth,"
said his thin sister
"Yes Once-ler, the more you make it richer you and us," said his
mother
"Cannot brother, if I cut down more trees later the forest guard will
be angry at me" Once-ler refused
"My brother, don't be afraid of him we will take care of it all." said
another brother
"It's true my grandson, do what your brother said," Once-ler's
grandmother assured him
Finally Once-ler followed what his family wanted. He cut down all the
trees in the forest and was assisted by his greedy family. Lorex tried to stop the
Once-ler effort to cut down all the trees in the forest. However, Once-ler still
did it until all the trees in the forest had been cut down by him.
"Once-ler, you disappoint me. You have violated your own words. "
Lorex was so disappointed with the actions of Once-ler. Lorex leaves Once-ler
and goes to the sky.
After Lorax's departure, Once-ler woke up and he felt very guilty for
what he had done.
"I'm sorry Lorax"
 Feeling guilty, Once-ler locked himself in a shack for years until he was
old.
The old once-ler remembered saving the seeds from Lorex.
"Lorax I will pay for my mistakes, I hope you come back"
Once-ler planted it and hoped to pay for his mistakes. For days he took
care of the seed and finally grew into a tree.
Lorax came and smiled at Once-ler.
"Lorax! You're back! " Once-ler exclaimed happily
Lorax only smiled in response to Once-ler
"I promised Lorax, I will not repeat my actions" Once-ler hugged
Lorax
Finally Lorax settled down with the old Once-ler and cared for the forest
from the beginning.
