Mulailah Dengan Senyuman

Kemarin, aku menghadiri kelas grammar.

1
Set up – to put (a machine) in readiness or adjustment for an operation
2
Team up – to join with someone to work together

tersenyum?”

Akupun tersenyum dan berkata “yah, kau benar”.

Start with a smile

Yesterday, I was attended the grammar class. That room is very quite. Not usually the class is
only attended by about twenty students,(passive voice). Maybe, today is rain. As always, I was
sit in the third row, beside my friend favourite chair, Annie, however I didn’t knew why she
doesn’t attended today.

Not long after I sat down, Prof. Matt appeared with a warm smile.

“Good afternoon everyone”

Instantly all activities that occurred in the class was stopped. Prof. Matt was set up his notebook
and the projector screen start to show the presentation (Vp 2). I was put out my note, keep
looking at him and write the points that I think important. (VP 4)

A few moments later, he gave us assignments. He gets that his work be done in group (Vp 9)
and let us determine our own group members (Vp 5). Honestly I'm a little confused because I'm
not too familiar with people who are in this class. Unfortunately, I'm not the type to easily start
a conversation with a new person.

At the least, I was the only student who didn't get a partner for the assignment. He asked other
students if anyone wanted to accept me in their group, but they was silent. I know I don't need
a partner to do such easy tasks, but this situation make me feel ashamed (VP7).

Fortunately, a few moments later, a miracle happened. Annie came with her wet clothes and
Prof. Matt ask me to work with her (VP3).

As we worked on the assignment, I asked Annie,

"Why they didn’t accept me?"

She replied calmly, "who wants to be in a group with a shy woman like you?"

Her words hurt me, I didn’t get it, and so I was confused about how to respond.

"Come on, opening a conversation with a new person won't kill you". Annie said.

"Is there another way to get close without having to say something?" I asked her.

Instantly she was stopped writing and answered casually, "why don't you start by smiling?"
I was getting smile and said "well, you're right".
