ABSTRAK

Kerusakan bahan pustaka sering terjadi pada setiap perpustakaan, tergantung

bagaimana dalam menjaga, merawat, dan memelihara koleksi yang sudah ada. Bahan pustaka
atau koleksi yang rusak dapat mengurangi mutu dari buku itu sendiri, sehingga tidak dapat
digunakan secara maksimal oleh pembaca. Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisis faktor
fisika penyebab kerusakan koleksi cetak di Perpustakaan Umum Kabupaten Malang. Metode
yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik mengamati
dan mengukur kondisi faktor fisika di Perpustakaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui
faktor penyebab dari kerusakan bahan pustaka, khususnya yang disebabkan oleh faktor fisika.
Penyebab kerusakan oleh faktor fisika terdiri atas cahaya, udara atau debu, suhu dan
kelembaban.

Dari pengukuran dan pengamatan faktor fisika menunjukkan bahwa baik suhu,
kelembaban, debu dan cahaya pada Perpustakaan Umum Kabupaten Malang belum
menunjukkan kondisi yang ideal. Untuk menjaga kondisi koleksi pada Perpustakaan Umum
Kabupaten Malang diperlukan adanya monitoring rutin terkait faktor fisika diantaranya debu,
cahaya, suhu dan kelembaban dan memberikan penambahan peralatan untuk mengontrol faktor
tersebut berada pada kondisi ideal. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan petugas
perpustakaan untuk preservasi koleksi perpustakaan sehingga dapat bertahan dalam jangka
waktu yang lebih lama.

 ABSTRACT

Damage to library materials often occurs in every library, depending on how to

maintain, care for, and maintain existing collections. Damaged library materials or collections
can reduce the quality of the book itself, so that it cannot be used optimally by readers. This
study discusses the analysis of physical factors that cause damage to print collections at the
Malang Regency Public Library. The method used to analyze the data is a qualitative method
with the technique of observing and measuring the condition of physical factors in the library.
This study aims to determine the factors causing damage to library materials, especially those
caused by physical factors. Causes of damage by physical factors consist of light, air or dust,
temperature and humidity.

From the measurement and observation of physical factors, it shows that the
temperature, humidity, dust and light at the Malang Regency Public Library have not shown
ideal conditions. To maintain the condition of the collection at the Malang Regency Public
Library, it is necessary to routinely monitor physical factors such as dust, light, temperature
and humidity and provide additional equipment to control these factors in ideal conditions.
This research is expected to be a reference for librarians for the preservation of library
collections so that they can last for a longer period of time.
