REPORT TEXT

 Definition of a Report Text


A report text is a type of document written by someone or
group of people to announce the result of an investigation
or announce something to the proper authorities. The
information given in a report text is very general
information.

 Social Function of a Report Text


The purpose of a report text is to present information
about something generally. It generally describes the way
things are with reference to arrange of natural, manmade
and social phenomenon in our environment, such as:
mammals, the planets, rocks, plants, countries of region,
cultures, transportations, and so on.

1. Title
A title of a report text indicates the topic of the text and it
is a very gene ralthing.
2. General Classification
A general classification is a part that state classification of
general aspe c t of things, such as: animal s, public places,
plants, etc. It will be discuss ed in general.
3. Description
This part gives describing of the things which will be
discuss ed in detail, in terms of: parts (and their function),
qualiti es, habits and behavior.

The blue whale is not only the biggest whale living today;
the blue whale is the biggest creature ever to have lived
on Earth. They are mind-bogglingly gigantic; much larger
than any of the dinosaurs. Blue whales and the other
ocean giants live their whole lives in seawater.

Blue whales commonly reach the colossal length of 29m,


that’s roughly as long as three London red double -decker
buses parked end to end. Blue whales in the Southern
Hemi sphere are generally larger than those in the
Northern Hemisphere and female blues are larger than
males.

The longest blue whale on record is a female measured at


a South Georgia whaling station in the South Atlantic
(1909); she was 33.58m. The heaviest blue whale was
also a female hunted in the Southern Ocean, Antarctica,
on 20 March 1947. She tipped the scales at 190 tonnes
which is equivalent to about 30 elephant s or 2500 people.

Blue whales are now extremely rare due to uncontrolled


commercial whaling. Some populations could be
endanger ed to the point of extinction.

 Grammatical features of Report Text


Grammatical feature is characteristic of the language used
in writing the report text. The following grammatical
feature s of text report:

1. Using general nouns, is an object (living or inanimate


objects ) that are commonly ex: The tiger. (Not My tiger ).
Uses relating verbs, linking verbs are also called, is a
word that connects the two objects as subjects and
objects. Examples are am, is, are. Ex: Cat is a mamal.
Sometimes using action verbs, are verbs that form of
activity. Ex: do, eat, run, make, etc.

2. Using the present tense, tenses are us ed to express a


factor something that is common. The word is commonly
us ed of ten, usually, always. Ex: Cat usually eats meat.

3. Using technical terms, is a term a term in a particular


field, which is related to the themes discuss ed Ex: To be

support detail, is a paragraph that describes detail the
subject of the paragraph.
