 Patofisiologi
Perubahaan struktural dan fungsional pada sistem pembuluh darah perifer
yang meliputi aterosklerosis, hilangnya elastisitas jaringan ikat dan
penurunan dalam relaksasi otot polos pembuluh darah menyebabkan
penurunan distensi dan daya regang pembuluh darah. Akibat hal tersebut,
aorta dan arteri besar mengalami penurunan kemampuan dalam
mengakomodasi volume darah yang dipompa oleh jantung (volume
sekuncup) sehingga mengakibatkan penurunan curah jantung dan
peningkatan tahanan perifer atau hipertensi.
